I used to be able to do this with no problem. With the last two updates of GSAK, when I try to create a folder from a GSAK to create a GPX file so I can send it to another cacher, I keep getting an error that says,
You cannot create a file there, that folder does not exist. That used to be how I *made* the folder to drop the file. I really dislike technology. It’s the part of this hobby I really do not like!
Thanks!
12/30/2009 at 3:26 pm #1918979I’ve never tried creating a folder directly from within GSAK. I generally create the folder manually via Windows Explorer and then just save it there via GSAK. I know it’s a 2 step process, but …
The other option – I have a “Temp” folder that I use to export all this temporary type stuff to. I know this is a folder that I can clear anytime without losing any valuable information.
12/30/2009 at 3:33 pm #1918980I have a permanent folder called “caches” and it’s on my desktop for easy access. All my cache related files go there. My PQ’s, my GPX files, and my Garmin POI’s as well as stash notes and blank logs for micros in PDF files. The folder is purged regularly of obsolete PQ’s and GPX files.
System works well for me.
12/30/2009 at 3:37 pm #1918981I’ll see if doing something like this helps. I went through the help thing within GSAK and I must be missing something. I used to be able to do this from right within my GSAK PQ.
12/30/2009 at 5:39 pm #1918982I don’t think you need to have gsak create a folder, the error you are receiving sounds like you just need to tell gsak a different place to save/create the gpx file. I have seen this error if you delete/move the folder you had setup gsak to save to.
To create a GPX select file menu, Export, GPX/Loc file.
In the next box that opens you need to change where GSAK saves the file by clicking the little folder next to file name.
Best bet just save the file to your computer desktop since it will make it easier to find & email to someone later. do this by using the drop-down menu at the top of this box & selecting desktop. In the bottom of this box also enter a name for the file you want to create. When finished setting it up click the open button.
This will bring you back to the second image window, all you need to do then is click generate at the bottom.

I’ve noticed this happen occasionally. When you are in the browse or open window, try right-clicking in the blank space and see if it gives you the option for new->folde
