Had a gang yesterday out doing Labrat’s Walk on the Wild Side.
A six pack of caches located in DNR areas, all required a walk of .10 to .25 miles one way. Yesterday, in the snow, we had a good workout.
Beautiful locations, small to large containers. And now, VERY obvious trails to and from each cache.
A great six pack, and highly recommended.
I’ve been looking at that series. After breaking trails and digging up caches in Rochester MN yesterday with KSpud and zuma so that everyone else can find them more quickly, maybe we need to take advantage of all your hard work!
Go now Gwyn! That’s where I got my Lyme memory. 😯 And those geotrails should be there till the next snowfall. 😉

No, no, no! Save them for summer and fall when the weeds/grasses are high! Or in the spring when (I assume) the water and the tick populations are high!
But definitely go! They should be a snap for the adventurous cachers to do all in one day, and nice extended trips into the wild one or two caches at a time for those of us who tend to, shall we say, savor every step and hour we spend in the woods and water.
And don’t forget that there is a seventh cache to get after finding all of the clues to put together for the final, “Ryan’s Rebus”.

You can also punch in 54984 for the zip code in a search, and they are all fairly close to Wild Rose itself and should come up. All have the same name except for the number: A Walk on the Wild Side #…
Currently WS#1 is frozen in but I may trek out and try to free it soon.
as far as the REBUS, to get a taste of it (and the “A” portion of the coords) check on the cache page for WS#2 in the gallery. that cache was replaced and I have to get the clue back in the container yet so I posted the clue on the page in the meantime. I will leave it on the page as an example though too.
Glad everyone that has done these enjoyed them even with the ever changing terrain, and the snow, the tall grass, the ticks, etc……

How does that quick sand look in the winter? Is it open? Or frozen over? Or dormant?

Didn’t get to see it this trip as the parking area was not plowed (go figure) and the crew attacked from an unfamiliar angle.

I was wondering, too, since no one mentioned it in their logs for this one. Surprised their “guide” didn’t put that on the “must see” items for this cache.
Oh, and when Labrat puts the clue in the container for WS#2? That was on the cache page page when we found this one in July, so don’t hold your breath. 😉
I attempted one a long time ago, the first 2-300 feet was a easy walk through dew soaked grass. After that it was a muddy nightmare, I ended up muddy to the hips and apparently didn’t end up finding it as its not been logged. I do remember my wife saying the jeans had to stay in the garage…
I’d highly recommend going now!
So…..we’re not so nuts as to be out today with the thermometer reading -10. Tomorrow looks somewhat better. If we were to head over to do these, how long should we plan on it taking? Trying to decide what else we can do while we’re in the neighborhood if we go. Thanks!
Plan on 3 hours for the seven caches.
Thanks, we’re still not certain we’re going, but that helps us to think about what else we might be able to do while over there.
Considering that there are key coords for Ryan’s Rebus in WS#1 that is still frozen in, please email me via my GC profile if you decide to do the series before the thaw. I will gladly send you the clue so you can make the bonus find on the Rebus cache. (be sure to give me time to email back & don’t forget the hint for WS#2 is on the cache page in the gallery)
