This is totally off topic, so please forgive me.

As many of you know I rescue hedgehogs. Right now we are dealing with a seizure of over 26,000 exotic animals in TX. 😯 800+ of these are hedgehogs with more being born every day.

We are looking for beanie babies (the hedgehogs cuddle up to these for warmth and protection), hedgie bags/hats, and file folder boxes (to be used for transport). If you would like to make bags or hats, let me know and I’ll send you directions.

Any donations can be dropped off at the event and I’ll take it with me when I go down to TX to liberate these hedgehogs from the death camp they were sentanced to. 😥

I now return you to your regularly scheduled caching pleasure…

I told my daughter about this post. She formed a knitting club at her high school and I thought maybe they’d be willing to help with your hatless hedgehogs. No idea if you knit hedgehog hats (actually can’t imagine who is going to put hats on these 800 hedgehogs nor how they’ll stay on- and discussing the answers to those questions has provided a good amount of amusement around here 🙂 ). Also, they couldn’t possibly have any hedgehog hats ready by this weekend but if you do knit hedgehog hats, and you’d need them later on in the month- she’s pretty sure that she could get the high school knitting club on board with helping the hedgehogs.

    Let us know.

You don’t actually knit hedgehog hats. They are sewn from fabric. Picture a hallow ball, cut in half, but made out of fabric.

Hats are a little harder to make than bags, but the hedgies love both.

Perhaps your daughter and her friends would like to make bags for the hedgehogs. There are two different versions… one is sort of like a double layer sleeping bag, that involves some simple sewing. The second is basically two rectangular pieces of fleece, folded and made into a bag by tying fringe together. No sewing involved with this one.

If you are going to be at the event, I can bring examples.
