I was just looking through the store and I was wondering if there is any plan to change to the new logo.

01/11/2010 at 4:24 am #1919795I noticed this awhile back also. Has anyone looked into a different service provider? I would love to get a nice heavy Grey hooded sweatshirt with the current logo. I don’t think white is a geo-friendly color.
01/12/2010 at 8:57 pm #1919796Is the person who submitted the designs to Cafe Press still an active member of WGA? If he’s not, then why can’t someone make a brand new Cafe Press account?
I assume WGA is a non-profit organization. I think I can also assume that any profits made by selling swag on Cafe Press go towards the operational costs of WGA, including the website’s bandwidth.
Should that be something voted on at a WGA meeting, or could someone take initiative and just get it done?
01/12/2010 at 10:24 pm #1919797I do not know how to get the logo changed. I also know that WGA did not realize revenue from the previous store.

What do you mean by “did not realize revenue”?
Do you mean that the revenue was insignificant or…?I looked at the old logo at Cafe Press
If you’re implying that no one bought any shirts with that logo, I dont blame them. No offense to whoever designed it, but it’s hideous.
It looks to me like someone threw it together in 5 minutes (or less) using Clip Art.The new logo looks tons better. It’s something I wouldnt mind being seen wearing in public.
I suggest one of the WGA board members opens a new CafePress account (it’s free), that is if no one has access to the old account.
If someone does have access to the CafePress account, its as simple as deleting the old designs and uploading new ones.
Cafe Press makes most of the money, leaving only a few dollars profit to the owner.
If you sell 300 T-shirts, 100 hats, and another 200 sweatshirts, and 100 coffee mugs or water bottles, thats a lot of money to made.
The great thing is, you don’t need to pay any money up front with CafePress. They just take a percentage of what you sell.01/12/2010 at 10:51 pm #1919799I see “Team Rusch” from Fond Du Lac submitted the original design to CafePress. They last logged onto Geocaching on November 23, 2009, so I’m assuming they’re still around. Someone could get in contact with them.
I’d be more than happy to set up a CafePress store with the new design, and make sure the money goes to the Treasurer.
But I probably wouldnt be a good candidate for that. You probably want someone who’s been here longer, and someone you know is going to stick around.IMO, I think one of the board members ought to take care of it. I’ve worked with Cafe Press in the past, and it’s so easy to do.
01/12/2010 at 11:29 pm #1919800I posted this in the board forum .. quite honestly, I personally will not have time to even look at this until after my Waukesha JanBoree event next weekend.
01/13/2010 at 12:39 am #1919801We will get in touch with Team Rusch and see if they can do something.
The Searchers01/13/2010 at 1:15 am #1919802Hello all, The Searchers let me know about this topic on the forum. I was the one who set up the initial store on Cafepress. As several of you have said there was not profit made on anything for sale in the old store. All of the prices listed are the base price for the merchandise plus printing. These prices are set by Cafepress. When the original store was set up it was discussed by myself and some of the other original members whether or not we should be making a profit and it was decided at the time that we would not. If we would like to have the shop updated with the new logo I would be willing to help. I can provide an email address to get the new logo and will go through and revamp everything. However, if it is decided that a profit should be made on this merchandise a new store will need to be started. The current one is under my user account and is one of many that I have so I would not be able to just turn it over to the next operator. I will keep my eye on this posting to see what the outcome is or you can send me an email at [email protected].

Thats what I’m saying. An account should be made by WGA, and items SHOULD be for profit, with profits benefiting WGA.

Which is something the Board of Directors should perhaps discuss at their next meeting if time permits. Ultimately they would be best to discuss continuing this and whether it is appropriate for the group to turn a profit and so forth.
On a side note…
While you may think the prior logo is dated, please post with respect. The member who created it is probably still reading these posts. Yeah they might have thrown something together in a few minutes but it was our group’s logo for (many) years. We don’t need to cut down our past.
Thanks!

01/13/2010 at 5:18 pm #1919806Thanks everyone
I am asking that we put this on the agenda for our next Board meeting so the new incoming board members can have input.

Agree that this is probably the best approach.
