I just wanted to let everyone know about a project I’ve been doing starting January 1st. It’s called Project 365, the goal is to take at least one picture every day of the year to help me become a better photographer. So far I’ve managed to not skip a day so I’m pretty proud of that.
Some of the pictures I think turned out very good, others not so much. The point though is to get out there and to use my camera and hopefully improve my skills over time.

I love the idea. I’m also and amateur photographer and I might just have to try this myself. Of course, mine would be Project 351 🙂

I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I’ve only been doing this for 14 days and it’s already starting to become a bit of a challenge to be original with my subject material. Good luck!!!
I love the picture with the ducks silhouetted in the sky. Awesome. You should keep the high res versions to sell in the future. What camera do you use? I also loved how clear the picture of the girl was and how realistic the colors were. My cheap camera takes nice pictures but the colors aren’t as nice. Your pictures look like the person is standing in front of you.

Thank you!! I save EVERY picture I take, even the bad ones. I have a Nikon D50 DSLR with 2 lenses, an 18-55mm and a 55mm-200mm. I also have several flash units as well as some studio lighting equipment (soft box, some home made large light setup’s etc…)
I have a Pentax K100D SLR digital camera with a 28-80mm lenses (I think) and also have a 70-200mm lenses from my old Pentax SLR film camera that I bought way back in 1990 or so. That was one of the reason I got the Pentax K100D – the backwards compatibility with the lenses from the old SLR film camera. Worked good for me.
Someday I need to do a photo journal of my own, Most of my geocaching pictures are on my facebook profile. I’ll copy those someday onto here. Eventually, I’ll ask an admin to set me up a folder.
I use a point and shoot Canon Powershot A640. It’s not an SLR, but it takes really nice photos. A lot of photography isn’t about the equipment, it’s about being able to look around you and see something that others might not.
BTW, just posted my first photo 🙂
I am not going to promise a picture everyday as my life is a bit to chaotic to guarantee you that. But I will put in an effort to post my best work as they show up. 2 days ago I purchased the Canon XSi and am learning how to use it ever since.

I agree you have been improving ever since I met you. 😉
I especially like the night shot of the lakefront and even if you think it’s a bit soft, the other daytime lakefront shot (1/16).
I first learned photography as a teen working with a 4 X 5 press camera, and I’ll tell you, it really helped my photographic eye. With just one shot, a person has to make sure they get what they want. In fact, once our kids were born, I finally had to move beyond that thinking, realizing that with kids, sports and wildlife, shooting tons and hitting “delete” is what makes the difference.
Have you ever looked at Jim Brandenberg’s book, Chased by the Light? He gave himself the assignment between the fall equinox and winter solstice to take ONLY one photo each day. Reminds me, I think some of those are still on display at the museum in Winona and I want to go see them.
