Since its been a while that we have been asked a question, I went back to last year and looked at a couple of the questions that I asked last year.
Here are my questions for the candidates:
1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?
2. What area of the state are you from?
3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.

A friend from the ambulance service that I volunteer for told me about the idea in September of 2004. We thought it sounded kind of “geeky” but went out anyway, we actually DNF’ed our first two tries at it but found the third one and got hooked.
2. What area of the state are you from?
I live and work in the Mountain, WI area its in Northern Oconto County about a hour north of Green Bay.
3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
My wife and I have traveled to all parts of the state to finish the Delorme Challenge and the County Challenge. We frequently take cache trips to different parts of the state.
4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
If elected I will travel to any of the far reaches of the state to attend events.
5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, etc.
Active member of MiGO, and a member of Minnesota Geocachers

3 years… I managed to get into geocaching by accident. I heard from a rugby teammate and fellow teacher about wreckage of a WWII bomber in the mountains east of Yuma, AZ. and decided I would love to climb up to see it. After searching the internet and newspapers in the area, I couldn’t find a location on the map, until I came across the coordinates on the geocaching.com website. At the same time, I happened to win a few dollars in the Super Bowl pool, so decided to purchase a GPSr so I could make the journey to the bomber. I got stuck in my car on the first attempt, but made the long hike/climb the second day. All total, my first cache was a 2 mile hike to the base of the mountain, then nearly 2000 feet up.
2. What area of the state are you from?
I currently live in Madison, but grew up in Mellen (near Lake Superior)
3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
all 72 counties. I take frequent trips to Hudson and to Mellen (once a month or so)
4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
I’ve traveled all the way north of Hayward from Madison for an event, and have also gone out of state to attend them.
5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.
still a member of SouthWest Arizona Geocachers (SWAG) and the Deep Southwest Geocaching Project (http://dgpstats.com)

Although I’ve never considered myself an outdoor type person, I’ve actually been doing geoSomething for most of my life. I had read about geocaching in 2005 and thought it was interesting, but promptly forgot about it. In 2007 my family gave me an eTrex. I was looking for something to do with it and found geocaching again. I took a closer look and we went out and found our first cache the next day.2. What area of the state are you from?
My family and I live in Wausau. Or, in the land affectionately known in the OT as The Outlands.3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
We’ve managed to visit 69 of 72 counties. Quite a few were visited for challenges, but more than half were in the course of everyday caching.4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
I can’t say how far we would be willing to travel for an event. In Wisconsin, we’ve gone as far North as St. Germain and as far south as Milwaukee. East to Oconto and West to Eau Claire. Out of state, we’ve been to an event just North of St. Paul and in Indiana and Ohio.5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.
No, just the WGA.01/25/2010 at 1:41 pm #1920989@sweetlife wrote:

Thanks sweetlife for the questions.
1. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?
Copied and pasted from my geocaching.com profile page. (please visit if you haven’t already: http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=af7c2919-2abc-4cac-9367-0b8d61466424)
I started Geocaching on May 22nd 2007. I was given the gift of Geocaching by my mother-in-law. For my birthday that year I received my first GPS (a yellow Magellan) and an Appleton Post Crescent article on Geocaching. I went on a business trip to Georgia the following week and found my first few caches around the Atlanta area. The rest they say is history!
2. What area of the state are you from?
I currently reside in Appleton, WI – born in Neenah, WI and grew up in Menasha.3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
I’ve cached to the tip of door county, down to the Illinois border and west to Minneapolis. I am not currently tracking my progress on # of counties or delorme pages.
4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
I drove 6 hours, one-way to pick up a dog once.
The West Bend cache bash is the farthest I’ve been from my house to attend an event. However, my family has traveled much further to go camping. I very much look forward to traveling further this year to attend the WGA events.
5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.
I am only a member of the WGA. Considering I don’t live in (or frequently travel to) any other state I have not pursued being a member in other caching organizations.
I am a fan of Big bob’s bulletin board on facebook.
01/26/2010 at 5:42 am #1920990Thank you Barry for the questions:
Question 1:
I signed up on Geocaching.com after reading several webpages about geocaching, and hearing about it on a Wisconsin Public radio Program. I actually had signed up at GC.COM about a year and a half or so before I found my first cache. I found my first cache on April 29th of 2006 with KS9WI in DePere, WI. After finding the first three we looked for on that day, I was hooked!Question 2:
I live in Green Bay, and Travel very frequently up to the Suring/Gillet/Mountain area, as well as Ft. Atkinson. I have cached in about 64 Counties. I am working on my Wisconsin Counties, and Delorme Pages to complete those two caches.Question 3:
I have traveled all over the great state of Wisconsin caching. When I run a find Stats Generator, it says that most of my caches are found between 75-150 miles from home.Question 4:
I would travel anywhere in the state to attend a geocaching event, I have been to three Midwest Geobashes, and every WGA Event since 2006.Question 5:
I am a member of the MAGC (Military Association of Geocachers), and the MIGO (Michigan Association of Geocachers)01/27/2010 at 1:44 am #19209911. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?
I have been caching since March 2006 but didn’t get competitive until Jan 2007. I got into caching as a result of research for possible events to use in the adventure race that the youth mentoring organization I was part of held each spring. One of the other board members mentioned geocaching as one of her friends dabbled in it a bit. I checked out the website, bought a GPSr off Ebay, and chased down the nearest handful of caches. After a couple, I was hooked and the rest is history.2. What area of the state are you from?
Lifetime Wisconsin resident.3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
Living in Central Wisc (Waushara County) I have ranged West and East primarily, with a little Southern jaunt. Hoping to gather some other areas soon.4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
Guessing that the Fall picnic at Mountain was the most distant event I have traveled to but am willing to travel to the corners of Wisconsin to make some of the other events to be had.5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, Big bob’s bulletin board, etc.
Honestly haven’t looked anywhere else except here and on the GC forums.Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.
01/27/2010 at 6:44 pm #19209921. What got you into caching and how long have you been doing it?
We started in 2005. I had seen a book about it earlier (probably 2003), but it seemed kind of pointless at the time. Later, when I was looking for an outdoor activity to share with my wife, I thought of this and decided to try it. The rest is history.
2. What area of the state are you from?
I live in the SE corner of the state, in the booming metropolis of Rochester.
3. How much of the state have you geocached in that is away from your home area? ?? of 72 counties
Looks like 39 counties if I counted right. (Just got Adams County last Saturday after the LCG event).4. how far from home are you willing to travel for events and how far in the past have you traveled to go to an event?
I think the farthest we have gone for an event was about 200 miles. I would consider it a responsibility to attend all WGA events, regardless of the location. I also try to attend as many of the local events as I can.
I think the real issue here is communication. For many of us, communicating on the forums or email is not a substitute for face to face meetings. The nice thing about the WGA events is that they provide the opportunity to meet many different people from most parts of the state.
5. Are you members of any other geocaching association: Michigan’s MiGO, Minnesota Geocachers, GONIL, etc.
I’m a member of GoNIL.
