yep there goes another phone.”yep lost my phone again”this time i was hiding a cache in a marsh.
even went back with a metal detector and no luck.
well at least there will be a new cache published soon.
does this happen often or is it just me? π₯02/04/2010 at 5:08 am #1921478Happened twice to me. Once I didn’t realize I lost it until I heard it ringing about 100 feet away. The next time, I had no idea where I lost it. That was after getting home after being at about 25 different caches about 40 miles away. I started retracing my route for the day and found it between the second to last and the last cache we were at.
Lost two cameras last year… π₯02/04/2010 at 2:56 pm #1921479Yup! happened to me also. Was down in the Twin Cities last spring at France Park(??). Did a 1/2 dozen or so caches or when I relized it was gone.
Started to retrace my route. And yup…the last cache, farthest one away.02/04/2010 at 4:22 pm #1921480I kinda of “lost” one last year. My phone was in a lower pocket of a pair of cargo shorts as I did a river crossing. Those phones really don’t like being submerged.
Another phone related incident. The snowblower makes a strange noise and just as I began to worry that I broke something pieces of my phone were flying out the chute.
02/04/2010 at 6:55 pm #1921481But you DID find your phone! π
02/04/2010 at 8:00 pm #1921482Yes.
About a 1/2 dozen times (only) π³ until I learned my lesson(s) the hard way(s). π
β‘ Now, a secured zippered pocket for the iPhone.
π‘ Geo-truck keys, on a lanyard around my neck.

02/04/2010 at 8:02 pm #1921483We were night caching and i stepped on leafs with mud underneath. Fell sideways and my phone smashed in my pocket. J almost smashed his iphone on rocks earlier. Anyone who gets an iphone should get an otter box.

And, wear a helmet!
YIKES!
02/05/2010 at 3:35 am #1921485We’ve lost it, but managed to find it before getting too far. Bummer on the lost phone, but thanks for a new cache placement! π
02/05/2010 at 5:38 am #1921486phone update:i found it with my mom after starting the first place i looked at my phone and put it back into my pocket.after about an hour walk through not fun terrain i located it with my metal detector in the last 15 feet of possible area right off the main trail “if i would have worked it backward i would have found it in 1 minute.
thanks for the other phone stories,it makes me not question myself that much02/05/2010 at 1:30 pm #1921487@smashing ground wrote:

I had a phone take a swim in Lake Winnebago while canoeing to a cache. It didn’t work as a phone after that swim.
02/05/2010 at 3:00 pm #1921488Yep, lost one in the rocks while hunting a cache in Racine. A very happy day as I HATED that phone!
02/05/2010 at 4:31 pm #1921489Roger and I have both lost phones while caching. When I lost mine we were able to find it by using Roger’s phone to call it. When Roger lost his it actually was raining and we found it after about 1/2 hour in the rain. Believe it or not, it still worked!! There is a new phone out called the Qauntico that is water resistant, in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes and is virtually indestructible. It was tested by the military. This may have to be our next phones!!!
02/05/2010 at 6:34 pm #1921490I lost one temporarily while on the way to the delorme final.. bit of luck and the sharp eye of a dark feline spotted in the grass.
Note to self and others – when you leave the house caching for the day, put the most obnoxious ring tone you have on and CRANK IT!

That’s a plan. π‘ π‘ π‘
Luckily for us (OK, me) for every one of those 1/2 dozen times ‘misplacing’ a phone I did find and recover them.
β‘ (Sure cut into my caching time and increased stress levels.)
Now, while fishing I lost two phones into the drink.
One of them, I actually was able to net it before it made its way down to Davey Jones’ Locker. β
