Ok so this is totally unrelated to geocaching. I currently have Time Warner Cable as a phone, internet, and tv. I am getting really sick of the way they treat there customers and there customer service sucks. For some reason our bill changes price every month and they cant figure it out I end up calling them every month to discuss our bill. So now i am finally fustrated after 3 months of this. That I am thinking of switching to a differnet supplier. So my question is what do other people have and do they like it or not. I was thinking AT&T u verse but i have heard a lot of mixed emotions about them. So if anyone can lend me a hand and let me know pros and cons of there provider that would be great I live in Milwaukee so i think i get most of the service providers.
Thanks in advance for the help.

02/26/2010 at 4:27 pm #1923358I’m in Milwaukee as well. I’ve had Time Warner(16yrs), then DirecTv(7yrs), then Time Warner (2yrs) and now AT&T Uverse (2yrs). I’m quite happy where I’m at. If you don’t use a DVR, you should. It’s the only way to watch TV these days. Saves yourself tons of time. And the Uverse DVR is great. One DVR for the entire house. You can watch any recorded program at any Uverse receiver in the house. And you can record up to 4 shows at the same time. Like most, you pay extra for each box you have. I think $7 or $8 per box. So if you have a lot of TV’s in can add up. The one big benefit to Time Warner is that you don’t need a box for every TV. You’ll only get the analog feeds from channel 1-100, but you can hook as many up as you need.
Another forum that is a great source is http://milwaukeehdtv.com/
If you want more info, PM me and I’ll be glad to share my phone #.
02/26/2010 at 6:14 pm #1923359I can’t speak for uverse but I can suggest what not to do because of where you live. If its the tv side you are unhappy with, find something else, I’m fairly happy with our dish network, its not perfect but neither was charter when I was somewhere I could get them. Perfect to me would be to allow me to get and pay for only those channel’s i really want…I’ve got 100+ channels now and watch a dozen or so.
Internet is going to be more ingrained into everyone’s lives, I don’t know what uverse can do but I would stick with cable for internet. I can speak for satellite, wireless p2p and cellular provided internet. Yes, they work, but for anything heavy duty they flat out don’t. If you are emailing and browsing cnn, they are fine, if you visit video sites or file transfers of any size they are almost useless.
I chose to live in the sticks which is great and I dont regret that but we have very limited internet access choices.
02/26/2010 at 6:17 pm #1923360After years of not having a TV, I acquired in on November, and signed up with Time Warner. After two months, i cancelled my contract with them – there really is not much worth watching.
Had no problems with either the bill or the canceling.

I agree, when I moved out to my house and was living alone I only had the OTA channels, I got a lot more done. I found I really didn’t need to watch anything and was actually pretty happy about it. I also didn’t have internet then, so I spent a lot more time doing other more productive stuff.
Who do you have for internet?
02/26/2010 at 10:26 pm #1923362I’ve had nothing but hurt with Time Warner from service to my experience canceling my service.
Uverse has been okay. I switched about 2 years ago.
Uverse Internet service is great. It’s always working at the advertised speed limit I have chosen to purchase. Wireless is built into the modem device they give you so no additional hardware. It also came with a UPS power supply so your wired phone (if you get the VOIP phone service) will work even with the power out for a half hour.
Uverse is a bit more expensive than time warner – I’m talking published non-contracted, non-sale rates.
I have the same television issues with uverse I had with Time Warner. Have had the lips not matching the voices issue twice. Pixelation on occasion during prime time many times.
The full house DVR is great with uverse.
Have had to reboot the boxes on occasion because they “wig out”.
High Def TV is not included in base price where it is with Time Warner if that is a need. However, I have a High Def Sony TV in my bedroom, hooked up to the box via HDMI, and the box set to the highest resolution for std def and people think I have Hi Def service…
I’ve also had dish TV service in my past and was completely unsatisfied with how it worked in bad weather. Your results may vary as this was several years ago.
VOIP phone service with uverse is over-priced for what it is. This is the one thing I would recommend you shop around for if considering their 3 way package. Still not sure why they charge so much more than say vonage for the same exact thing.
Hope this helps..
02/26/2010 at 10:31 pm #1923363The only time I ever watch anything on cable is at mom’s. There is only about 5 channels that I would watch so I don’t even consider buying into that crap. When free tv is no longer free, I will get rid of my tvs. I refuse to pay $50 for for a handful of channels and reruns on the rest. I will also be the last person on earth to get a cell phone.
Wow, sorry about that Scrappy. That had nothing to do about answering your question. I feel better though. Good luck.
02/26/2010 at 11:03 pm #1923364Thanks Furfool you made me laugh.
I have had satellite before and i will NEVER get it again. when we would have a little bit of rain coming down we would have crappy service i would call them and they would come out when it was sunny not a cloud in the sky and say I don’t know whats wrong everything seems fine. then the next rain it was crappy again i called them and said come on out and see it and there response was its raining we don’t do any service work in the rain do to being on the roof. my response was come get your stuff i am done.
As for not having a TV i would love to live with out one but my problem is there are a lot of things i like to watch i got caught up with watching shows and stuff plus my wife has to have her daily stories recorded for her so she can watch them when she gets home. but things might change i might just get rid of it all and put some rabbit ears on top and a hd box and leave it be lol
