Does anyone know what the tall brick building (lookout-esqe) just on the west side of Omro is? I am finding myself driving that way quite a bit and wonder what it is or what it was used for.

Supposedly the tower was built in 1935.
There used to be a fur ranch where they raised silver foxes. The tower was used as a watch tower, to protect the ranch from thieves interested in stealing their foxes.

I guess silver foxes are worth a lot of money.

Thanks – geez, that’s quite the tower to just watch for thieves…a person could almost live in just the tower.

I have driven by this for years, and had all sorts of ideas for why the tower.

Never came up with this one though …….

Thanks for a bit of local history.

Someone else told me that when I was wondering the exact same thing. Who’d a thunk it? It’s surely an interesting landmark.

And how about the two giant snowmen/gatekeepers down the road? I’ve always like those, too.

The name of the family at that place is Snow. Those look OK right now, but kind of out of place on a hot summer day.

A few years ago Channel 3 out of Madison spent a week visiting different “out of the country” places in Wisconsin, like Marathon, Brussels (or was it Belgium?), and this was featured when they did Berlin.

Berlin was featured? Why didn’t anyone ask me to be on TV? πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

I don’t think you were famous (infamous?) enough at that time.

I’ll see if I can get a photo of these in the next few weeks. These definately look out of place in the summer.

I’ve taken a few over the years. Also, there’s a nearby cache: GC15DE8 (Dead End at Four Corners)

Wasn’t one of berlin’s cemeteries featured on a most haunted show?

I drive past that every time I go to my parents summer place. They once told me that it was a loft house for the migrant workers in the area. I guess they lied to me again. Thanks for the info.
