At our Board of Directors meeting this past Sunday, the Board decided to place an increased emphasis on the WGA sponsoring CITOs in the coming year. The minutes of the meeting and the full motion will be posted soon, but it essentially boils down to that the WGA is looking to host 6 CITOs this year.

4 of the 6 locations are in process, which I will give you a sneak peak at here, but we are still looking for 2 more locations to sponsor CITOs and invite folks to suggest their area, provided they are willing to help organize the event, with WGA assistance.

First, the 4 CITOs in progress are:

    1. April 17 — Hwy 10 in Manitowoc County, K0RPL in charge.

2, April 24 — Outagamie County, Cheeto in charge.

    3. TBD — Marathon County, Team BlackCat in charge.

    4. TBD — Waukesha County, AuntieNae in charge.

First of all, if you want to help lead one of these planned CITOs, contact the individual noted for each one. There will be more information coming out as the cache pages are published on each one, for those who want to help out at the CITO.

Second, if you would like to help organize a CITO in any WI County not already seeing a WGA CITO this year as listed above, let me know. The WGA has budgeted $150 for each CITO and can provide that amount of financial support for a CITO in your area, and some help pulling it together.

This is your chance to help bring a WGA event to your neck of the woods. If you have questions post them here, or PM me.

As earlier announced, the Board of Directors h as decided to place an increased emphasis on the WGA sponsoring CITOs in the coming year. We plan on sponsoring 6 (possibly more) CITOs this year, and this announcement is to update our progress so far in developing these CITOs.

    1. April 17 — Hwy 10 in Manitowoc County, K0RPL leading event, and will get cache page published within a week.

    2. April 17 — Harrington Beach State Park, EnergySaver leading event, and zuma will get cache page published within a week.

3, April 24 — Appleton, Cheeto leading event. Cache page published- GC24H1Z.

    4. TBD — Marathon County, Team BlackCat developing.

    5. TBD — Waukesha County, AuntieNae developing.

    6. July 3 — Barnes, Barnes Babes (GRAMACINDY, MILESFROMNOWHERE, LOONY LORI, AND KRAFTYFASHIONABLES) and zuma developing

We budgeted $900 to host 6 CITOs. After these events are held, we will look at whether we want to host more, if funds are available, and have started a waiting list of people interested in being involved. On the waiting list is a potential CITO in Brown County with GottaRun leading the event.

Thanks to all the people stepping up to volunteer to help out.

SERIOUSLY?????? 😯 😯 😕 😕 😕 Weekend of the 4th?? Don’t know of too many locals who are going to give up their 4th to pick up trash. That’s the busiest week of the year around these parts.
That’s a bad time in my opinion. I’ll be working for for sure.

Sounds like it would be a great weekend for a CITO, then. Plenty of trash out there to pick up. 😉

It’s great to see some of the locals step up to organize these events, and now there is an official WGA event well north of highway 64! 😯

JULY 3rd? Not sure where zuma! came up with that date….we were seeking one in August to coincide with the second annual Barnes Babes Cache B.A.C.H.E. We were hoping to have a multiple icon day set up for the events….I will contact zuma! regarding this…We WOULD BE HONORED to host a CITO event in Barnes and after the 4th of July would be a great time. Just a little later than the 3rd.

Ya, that great, but it’s not the campout or picnic.

Its a great effort to have a WGA event “north of 64” but I agree with cheezehead the weekend of the 4th would be the worst possible time. And really how many of the BOD are going to travel to the great northwoods to pick up a bit of trash, remember we don’t have the 4 lane super highways up here, its bumper to bumper on two lane roads. and to find a campground or hotel to stay at would be an entirely different matter.

Definitely think a bit more planning has to go into this date

not a problem, and will change the date to what works for you the best. Looking forward to it, as I love coming up to Ashland County, and the Barnes Babes are the best.

You might be surprised to discover that some of the BOD regularly head as far north as highway 2, and know the traffic patterns well. 😉

Glad the date for the Barnes event can be worked out, and if it doesn’t conflict with my trip to Newfoundland, we’ll be there. Yes, CITO events involve trash, but the ones we’ve done have been a lot of fun, with more than just picking up trash.

If you’ve never participated in a CITO event or a service cleanup project in the past, please consider attending one of these events in 2010. (and if you have, you probably know how fun they are!)

You will feel good when the area is all clean. The camaraderie and pride shared with all who attend is such a great feeling when your all done and enjoying a potluck and sharing a caching story or 2.

It’s more than just a “new icon” in your found stats. Some people will come for the icon but learn that it’s so much more than that.

You won’t regret participating in a CITO event.

I for one am thrilled that the WGA has finally stepped up the CITO efforts. I think it is a great PR tool.

There have been a few CITO events around here held by AuntieNae but as yet I have not attended one….I have yet been able to attend one but hope to this time out.

In any case, I tip my hat to the WGA 😛

Agree about the BB, but Barnes is in Bayfield County.

But I am surprised that a CITO event is needed north of Highway 64, where everything is so pristine and sparkling clean. 😉

          #1924299

North of Highway 64 sometimes gets the swag blown in from south of Highway 64…so we Barnes Babes from Bayfield County would be honored to co-sponsor a CITO event!

Just letting interested parties know that the April 17th CITO at Harrington Beach, has been up and running for a about a week now … not sure what’s stuck to keep it from showing on the WGA “Events” page … be here’s the link: GC25114

The 4th of 6 WGA CITOs this year has been scheduled for August 7, 2010 in Barnes. See GC2ADTE for details.
