I have been interested in checking out geocaching since I saw it on Fox 6 caching with Condella. I put a handheld on my Christmas list after signing up for the West Bend Cash Bash in Nov. (#244 yeah, I get a goodie bag!! π ) Low and behold, I must have been too naughty and Santa did not bring me a gps :(… but that is ok I splurged at tax time and picked one up myself off of craigslist. I got a nice little Etrex Legend to get me started and went on my first run with my son on Valentines Day. Needless to say, we were hooked. After 2 out of town trips, 2 reams of paper and a couple of spendy ink cartridges I looked again on craigslist and found a nice PN30… paperless caching… it was heaven!!! In a little better than a month we have made over 70 finds and just yesterday I placed our first cache :). I find it fun to get out (exercise with a goal!!) and see all the great areas in Wisconsin and even better, I get to bring my little monkeys!! (ages 12 and 14). I have taken friends and my kids friends along with us and I am sure there will be a few more geocachers due to the fun we all have. I even find it fun to help repair and maintain (I try to keep extra log books and bags on me). I look forward to a lot of fun and adventure and also meeting new people and seeing new places!!
Thanks for a great site to bring that all together!!

AKA koolma_k03/24/2010 at 3:59 pm #1925899Welcome to the fun, and how great to hear that kids are enjoying it along with you, AND learning that a little help for the cache owners along the way is great karma.
03/24/2010 at 4:18 pm #1925900Sounds like you’re enjoying the activity that all of us here love so much. Welcome to the game and the WGA, Debby! And now that you’re really into it, you should be set for all future holidays and birthdays… new receivers, ammo cans, camo duct tape, lock-n-locks… π

03/24/2010 at 5:21 pm #1925902Welcome to the addiction…I mean “the adventure” π
Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
03/24/2010 at 5:37 pm #1925903hmmmmm I seem to remember a few people looking at me crazy like I was posessed, obsessed, addicted… ah, yeah it’s an adventure!! (Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring a basket of goodies… or better yet, coordinates to the easter eggs!!!)
:), yeah I am now an addict, isn’t admission the first step in the 12 step program???
03/24/2010 at 10:36 pm #1925904Welcome to the WGA! I’m a Debby too π
How great that you have friends and family who enjoy your obsession. Mine just tolerate it. Lucky for me the WGA is full of people with the same hobby who “get” it. You sound like you have made good choices to get started, and you will love the West Bend Cache Ba$h. Have fun!

03/25/2010 at 1:23 am #1925908Thanks so much, that worked perfect…. I edited my cache to show membership and promote the WGA. π
03/25/2010 at 3:16 am #1925909Welcome to our fun! I have a six year old who just loves making the find! (even if I have to point him in the right direction!) If you want to keep the kids involved try letting them plan the route with some guide lines. (Like we’re going to _______ city, you can find some there.)
03/25/2010 at 3:22 am #1925910I find that bribing them with ice cream or treats works well too π
I also noticed that it is much easier to get them to go on ones if flashlights are involved…kids LOVE flashlights, lol
Anything that involves a little bit of the unknown to peak their curiousity π03/25/2010 at 4:44 am #1925911Welcome to the WGA and a great big thanks for the promotion for the group.
