Anybody know what kind of work they are doing there? One of the only parks in Oshkosh without a cache. Maybe there will be more options when they’re done?
The “park” is actually the filled-in Lutz Quarry (owned by the guy who built the large stone house on the corner of South Park and Knapp).
Long story short, the vent system for the gas building up under the fill was failing. (That’s why it was a park with no trees and all pipes). They are repairing it so the whole neighborhood doesn’t go BOOM! 😯
I doubt there will be any more hide spots than before when they are done. Maybe you can get out there with some PVC while the construction is going on and replace one of the vents with a cache. 😆 (Don’t really do that, please.)
Hmm, I suppose going BOOM would be a bad thing. Never knew that tidbit of history. Makes sense with the name and all.
On a related note, how do you know all this local history stuff?
I walked that “flatland” park a few times. Didn’t seem quite right for a cache. But PVC would work! 😉
I thought about matching the pvc pipe and vents but the vent alone was over $30. It could get kind of expensive trying to replace it so I didn’t bother. I always wondered abou the vents but never found a suitable answer. Thanks for the info.

I am a treasure trove of trivia. 😆 Plus, I like local history (especially the history of things “lost), so any time I stumble across something I research it a bit. That house always interested me, so I looked into it. It explained the whole PVC park thing.
