I noticed flags at half staff yesterday. I’ve googled about it, but no luck. Why are they at half staff? (I’m a little out of the loop as far as watching news lately, as my dad’s funeral was yesterday.)
03/30/2010 at 1:12 pm #1926188A soldier from Wisconsin was killed in Iraq and his funeral was yesterday.
03/30/2010 at 1:47 pm #1926189That soldier was Robert Michael Rieckhoff. He is my nephew. We burried him yeasterday with honors at Sunset Ridge in Kenosha. Bubba was a hero that died for his country, and all of us. He will be sorely missed. RIP
I’m very sorry for your loss as well ES
03/30/2010 at 2:28 pm #1926190Our condolences to both of you.
We are waiting for a nephew to return from his second tour of Iraq in April. Can’t say enough about those who serve, and for those who make the ultimate sacrifice, words aren’t enough.

Our condolences are with you, your family, and all his friends!!
One of my favorite quotes “If you don’t want to stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them” 🙂

On a parallel, is there a website that we can look this information up, on when flags are at half staff, who it is in honor of? I knew who it was for this time, but many times I don’t and have wondered where I could find out.
03/30/2010 at 10:12 pm #1926193My condolences to both families. As Sandlanders said words can’t convey the debt of gratitude we owe to those serving their country.
Amita I think at work they use the State of Wisconsin website. The first link will send you an email when flags are to be flown at half staff. I don’t know if the email provides the reason why the flags should be lowered. The second link is to the governor’s office where executive orders are posted. Executive order 311 was for Specialist Robert Rieckhoff.
