The following motion was recently passed by the Board:
“The WGA will hold its annual Fall picnic at
Roche-A-Cri State Park in Friendship WI 53934 on the second Saturday following Labor Day. This would make the date of the picnic September 18, 2010.”04/04/2010 at 8:57 pm #1926506I want to add my thanks to Labrat and Sandlanders for checking on the logistics, talking to the ranger, and helping the board make the site selection for next fall’s geo-picnic.
Roche-A-Cri is a great park, and I think those who have not yet visited will have a great time caching here. There are 3 virts, 3 Earthcaches, 2 field solvable puzzles and a great multi among the 14 caches in the park, and I am sure there will be several more caches in the park in September for our event.
I was able to cache Roche-A-Cri yesterday, and had a great time, as it is a wonderful place.
The spring 2011 event will likely be in NW Wisconsin, and the fall 2011 will likely be in NE Wisconsin, as we continue to rotate around the state. This one is be counted as SW Wisconsin, even though it is more central than SW.

04/04/2010 at 9:03 pm #1926507Nice park for the picnic. For some there is the geocoinfest in Minnesota on September 19th. We were planning on the coin event, but may have to cancel our hotel.
04/05/2010 at 12:36 am #1926508We are pleased as punch to have our “home” state park selected as the site for this fall’s picnic. Lots of caches in the park, lots of caches nearby, lots of hiking and scenery. Area lakes if you like that. And the stairway to the top of the mound, with all of its great views, is just across the park road from the shelter area.
Looking forward to helping out with this once things go into high gear later this spring/summer. If you haven’t been to this part of Wisconsin before, you’ll love Sandland!
04/05/2010 at 1:59 am #1926509We were just talking about getting to this park sometime soon and now we’ll be going for sure. Looking forward to finally meeting Sandlanders.

Meh, it is not that great to meet her. ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
Just kidding Mrs. and Mr. SL. We do look forward to meeting you both again.04/05/2010 at 2:25 am #1926511With a Mega event the same weekend, there might want to be some thought on possibly changing the date, it is a ways out yet. We have our hotel reserved and paid for already, so we will be at the mega for sure.
04/05/2010 at 3:44 pm #1926512good location choice!!!
hopefully Roche-A-Tree will be replaced by then and i could have this park full of smileys.04/05/2010 at 4:36 pm #1926513hopefully Roche-A-Tree will be replaced by then and i could have this park full of smileys.
I hear you….isn’t it silly what can drive some of us? We’re still smarting after getting every single smiley on Mackinac Island, only to have about one third archived and new ones placed, LOL. Guess we can either go back, or never look at that map.
I vote we go back!

Great location for the event! I look forward to some pics on my EC there…
And I hear ya about Mackinac Island…when I was there there were only a small handful of geocaches…now it’s a whole day of geocaching to get em all…definitely worth a return trip though….bring a bike!
04/05/2010 at 7:03 pm #1926515Two days, Gary. Two very full days, but fun ones. We biked.
04/05/2010 at 7:42 pm #1926516Back on topic, I would like to know myself if this date is set in stone. If it is, that’s my regular weekend off from work and I can make it.

Yes, it is set in stone. The geocoinfest is mostly on Sunday, and our event is on Saturday.
