Just wondering if anybody has been to either the Crater of Diamonds State Park in AR or the Hiddenite Emerald Mine in NC. Both of them seem like something that would be pretty fun.
04/07/2010 at 3:47 pm #1927013I haven’t been to either of those, but growing up in Colorado, I went on many a gold/silver mine trip.
Always a cool history lesson when precious items are involved! We were far more likely to listen to the history of the mining towns, when there is a 30 foot gold vein in the wall behind the tour guide.
04/07/2010 at 4:50 pm #1927014Was in Murfreesboro, AR with the kids a couple of years ago and also as a kid myself many years ago. It’s something to do, but I don’t think it’s something to plan a trip around.
If you go to either of them, bring your own buckets, shovels, etc because that’s where they make their money. If you have kids, they will have a blast. If you have a spouse that loves the idea of striking it rich and actually is innocent enough to believe it could happen, it’s a good time. Otherwise, don’t expect to find anything. Personally, if you like digging in the dirt, I say plant a garden.04/07/2010 at 4:52 pm #1927015@cachearrrs wrote:

Went to the Mollie Catherine Mine in Cripple Creek last summer with the family. They loved it – history, 1000 ft below the ground, etc.
