Anybody use 3G wireless at their home and do so with more than one computer on a regular basis?
I live out in the sticks … no DSL, No Cable.
So I have Hughs Net satelite … and I’m sick of the speed and more so the limitation per hour of how much data you can pass (if you exceed the limit they slow you to dialup speed for 24 hours).I’ve consider getting 3G but the logical providers in my area (ATT and US Cellular) only provide the services with a plug in USB device. So it’s really designed for just once computer at a time. I have 2 desktops and a 1 laptop that I’d like to have internet service with it.
Anybody doing this and figure out a way around this limitation?
We have a device from Verizon. We’ve had it about a year and are pretty happy with it. We run it on both our computers, but not at the same time, so we can’t help with that part of the question. We were in the same boat before-living in the country, which is great, but with access only to dial-up or satellite.
You need a routing program like WinRoute or any software based program that will setup a NAT and serve the other PCs in your house.
Cellcom, a local provider by Green Bay, has a device that you can hook up multiple computers to. I don’t have it, but both of my sister have and they have had no troubles with it.

I would personally got with something from Verizon, they have the most 3G coverage in the state. If your two computers are laptops and have WiFi, I would go with Verizon’s MiFi http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/mobilebroadband/?page=products_mifi . Its portable so you can take it anywhere you go.

I’d definitely agree with this. We use 2 MiFi’s at work for travelers and I have one at my inlaws. It works great, however you’ll be disappointed if you’re not in 3G coverage as it’ll still connect at 1xRTT which is about twice the speed of dialup (better than nothing!).
I believe VZW has a 30 day window when you can return it and cancel your contract if you want to try it out. The MiFi can have up to 5 computers connected inherently and provides a basic WiFi AP w/ NAT.

No T-Mobile service by me … in fact their cell services gets between 0 and 1 bars when someone is at my house.
