I was at a graduation party for a friend’s son in Neceedah. On the way back I swung over to check out the Monty’s Taxi cache. I had read the logs, but wanted to see for myself. How does a cache like that get published and remain active? It is behind a closed gate with big signs stating that it is a military installation and entry is prohibited.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

The CO (who hasn’t logged onto GC.com in years) says it’s on public hunting land.

    I don’t believe that.
I’m the second person who’s made an NA log in the last few weeks.

    Can anyone say Cache Rescue?

When I visited this one, I came in from the 20th ave side and no gate hindered me. not sure if this is still the case or not.

Maybe I am just one of the lucky 20 that didn’t get bombed. 😯

The picture (posted above) which I took yesterday is the gate near the intersection of 20th Ave and 3rd Street.

This dirt road, looking west, IS 3rd street.

Yeah, that is where I was this morning. Same gate, 20th Ave and 3rd St.

You will find the same gate and signs across 19th ave. also.
I believe that this was never public hunting land, but that it wasn’t being actively used by the Air Force and they didn’t care if people hunted there.
It appears that things have changed.

This land is not far from Volk Field (which is all National Guard), especially as the drone flies. The change is status may be related to this news item from today http://tinyurl.com/2cqj7g6 . Here’s the headline, in case the link breaks: “Wisconsin National Guard looks to build drone base in Juneau County”.

When this cache is archived, will there be a Rescue Mission? 😯

I’m sure they wouldn’t mind as long as we’re polite and reassure them we won’t disturb anything! πŸ˜†

I just saw WisKid’s archival note.

The cache may still be retrievable.
The sign says entrance may be granted by the Installation Commander.
It may take just a phone call and possibly a GCU geocaching brochure and this cache could be out of there.

I’d be up for the job as long as there’s a free ammo can in it for me. πŸ™‚
