    Sweech’s topic in the Tech Talk forum had me wondering… How many caches are there for me to find at a certain distance from my house? If I we’re to “clear the map” so to speak, what would I be looking at?

    So I ran a few pocket queries. Thought I’d share and open it up for others to do the same thing and see what the numbers look like for others around the state.

    So here goes for Appleton, WI:

    30mi – > 1000 (1926)
    20mi – 602 (1230)
    10mi – 311 (834)
    5mi – 163 (483)
    1mi – 3 (25)

    I added total available in parenthesis for each radius.

    Exploring a bit further for total available I find:

    50mi – (3548)
    75mi – (6017)
    100mi – (9240)

    Are we looking at total caches or ones left to find…?
    I have 4 to do within 5 miles of me….(three of them are new ones).
    I have 75 total caches within 5 miles of my house.

      Fun thing to try, Cheeto. Thanks for sharing.
      I just kept changing the radius in the PQ and looking at the preview to get the numbers. Then I deleted the PQ so it won’t run. Used my home coords in Adams.
      Two left to find in both the 5- and 10-miles radius: both events at Roche-A-Cri State Park, one tomorrow and the WGA picnic in September.

      left to find:
      5 miles: 2
      10 miles: 2
      15 miles: 5
      20 miles: 38
      25 miles: 105
      30 miles: 198
      35 miles: 373
      40 miles: 543
      45 miles: 834
      50 miles: >1000

      total caches:
      5 miles: 29
      10 miles: 65
      15 miles: 115
      20 miles: 247
      25 miles: 371
      30 miles: 567
      35 miles: 816
      40 miles: >1000
      45 miles: >1000
      50 miles: >1000

      Currently, I have 211 unfound caches with 50 miles, the most since I started caching.

      6 months ago it went over 50 for the first time in a long time. I had it down to 11 at one point 2 years ago, but now they come out faster than I hunt them since I like to travel to cache.

      I’m affraid to look! 😀

      Sorry, should have clarified. Looking at how many you have left to find… though it would probably be interesting to do the same thing with all available but it’s more cool (or scary!) to think about how many you have left! 😉

      I added total available for each radius in parenthesis since you made me curious!

      Within 50 miles I have an evil looking 666 caches unfound.
      30 miles – 207 caches
      20 miles – 115 caches
      10 miles – 57 caches

      I have 3 caches that I haven’t found within 1 mile. They’ll still be there next week…

        Fifty miles from our home coordinates in West Salem WI, there are currently 1512 caches. We have 21 that we haven’t yet found. Three of those are questionable that we’ll ever find, although perhaps one of those might become a possibility at some point.

        We used to have a goal to clear out everything, and have actually done that a couple times, nothing hidden on an ignore list. It’s a stupid goal, we’ve discovered. Why? Because when you have only 20 within 50 miles of your home, which is really more like 60 road miles, you don’t have much available for those times to just go out to get a few for fun one evening.

        As a good friend likes to say, you can’t drain the ocean. We just like to explore and have fun.

        This is what we have left to find in a 40 mile rad. from where were at in Green Bay
        1=8
        10=311
        25=828
        40=1000+

        #1930781

        Well, I have found 267 already (mostly from my home coords). It does help that I live near a large metro area that is home to many cachers!!

        5mi=49
        10mi=357
        15mi=809
        20mi=1000

        #1930782

        I have only been keeping track of a 5 mile radius. I used to have only 3 unfound but we recently moved 3 miles south and now I have 19. Not all of them in Wisconsin.

        #1930783

        I don’t live in a cache rich area…not including Door County, which is about 18 miles across the bay, I have about 30 some caches in my area…3 are still unfound…one is a night cache whose tacks I have trouble finding. The other two needs a boat or kayak to get to.

        For the most part, I have to travel. See my miles traveled in a certain radius on my GC profile.

        #1930784

        Going out to a 10 mile radius from my house, there are a total of 791 caches, with 253 left to find.

        #1930785

        I hate you guys for living in a cache rich area…lol..maybe I should move to West Bend someday – lol.
