This has us stumped. When we click on “gpx file” on a cache page, normally it would open as a GSAK file. However, iTunes is the program that wants to open the file, not GSAK. If we click on “loc file”, it appears as a GSAK file as expected. We haven’t changed anything lately except downloading the Geosphere App to use with our iPod touch. How do we get GSAK to recognize the gpx file again?
Like any good Windows application there are multiple ways to change the file association. Here’s a couple using XP (Windows 7 may be different):
1) My Computeer -> Tools -> Folder Options. Click on the “File Types” tab. Find the GPX file extension and click “Change” A window should open allowing you to select the program you want to associate with GPX files. Be sure the “Always use …” option is selected.
2) Find GPX file on your drive and right click on it. Select “Open With” -> “Choose Program”. A window should open allowing you to select the program you want to associate with GPX files. Be sure the “Always use …” option is selected.
We tried #2 and that solved the problem. Thank you so much for the help!
Even thought the problem has been solved, another way to fix it is from within GSAK itself. Click on the Tools menu, then File Association…
There’s even an option to have GSAK make the necessary changes every time it starts.
