    From the recovery notes:

    Station Description

    Described by Coast and Geodetic sSurvey 1954 (DAJ)
    The station is located at the Winnebago County Airport in Oshkosh. It is about 50 feet high, of steel construction, orange and white, four legged, has a maintenance platform on top and a revolving beacon that flashes green and white. The beacon flashes white every 7 seconds.

    A traverse connection was made from triangulation station Winnebago to the beacon and the distance is 117.803 meters (386.49 feet).

    The point traversed to was the center of revolving beacon.

    Recovered in good condition.

    So is this benchmark recoverable? In 1964 it was considered destroyed, yet in 1995 a different organization considered it good. Is the station the beacon? Or the tower itself?

    I would definitely mark it not found as the beacon was moved to a new tower. It is NOT in its exact spot at the exact elevation at which is was first measured. I would write a note to the effect.

    As for the USPS – take all their logs with a big grain of salt. Most of them did a p*ss poor job. Mind you, NOT all were were terrible, but recovering stations was done to ‘volunteer’ hours in, and accuracy wasn’t something to worry about. THey tend to have a better handle on the waterway stations though (channel markers etc).
