Has anyone gotten one of these and if so what do you think?
Thanks07/25/2010 at 3:22 pm #1933659Looks like the same unit as the 60CSx, with added paperless geocaching functionality in the operating system. Since this unit doesn’t support Wherigo, I think most geocachers would be better off opting for an Oregon.
07/25/2010 at 4:26 pm #1933660Is Wherigo that popular? I am sure they will ad it like the Oregons. I have a PN-60 and 40 and they do not do it either. I was just wondering if they changed the way you do multi’s. The Delormes have that down the way it should be, not like the Oregons and Dakota’s. Where you have to make a wpt for the next coords.
Thanks07/26/2010 at 1:01 pm #1933661I wouldn’t count on them adding Wherigo. They specifically excluded it from the Dakotas as a point of difference from the Oregon, and I suspect the same thing is going on here.
I have no idea what you are talking about regarding multis. I would think you would always need to either add a waypoint or change the existing coordinates. How else could you do it?
07/26/2010 at 8:10 pm #1933662On the PN’s you go back to your GC page and change the coords. Then when you go to find it all you need to do to find the info is go to description and it is there. O the DK and the Oregons you need to go back to the GC page and go into it. Then find the original and look at the description. It is more pages to go through. It is not a big deal but it a selling point for me.
Thanks07/27/2010 at 3:19 pm #1933663Why not just enter a new waypoint? I don’t know about you, but I have made mistakes entering waypoints on multis, and needed the original location to return to. Changing the original location would never occur to me. On the standard Garmins, you press and hold one button to get to the “Mark” screen for entering a waypoint. I believe the ColOreKotas take two button presses.
07/27/2010 at 6:24 pm #1933664I agree with Yinnies. The workflow problem with the way Oregons handle multis (as I see it) is that you have to enter a new waypoint, then navigate to it. Which means, when you find the final at your new waypoint, you are no longer navigating to the geocache itself, so you are not able to note that it is a found or enter any field notes.
Instead, you have to cancel navigation to the new waypoint you created, then go back and re-navigate to the geocache, then log your find.
It’s a clunky procedure IMO.
On the Left Side of the Road...07/27/2010 at 8:20 pm #1933665I like the way my Delormes work because I have all of the info right there. This was a reason I have bought the Oregon 300, 450 and the Dakota 20 and returned them. It is a little thing I love about the Delormes. I am really interested in the 62S but would really like this feature, I already have the 24K topo and Topo 2008. Does anyone now of a store that has the 62S or 62ST in stock around my area?
