We’ve been enjoying some of the biking trails, caching up and down the Mississippi and Trekkin’ had a little ‘run’ to Marshfield while I was gone. But we are feeling like we’ve been doing a lot of quick grabs and not enough ‘adventures.’ (Thank goodness we’ve been biking to many, or the whole ‘exercise’ rationlization would be phony). There’s a couple paddling ones we’d like to do but the logistics are a challenge for us right now.

Other than a series in the Black River Falls area intended for ATVers (we walked), it seems like there haven’t been any tough terrain with a hike caches placed in a while. Tell us if there are and where they are located. We aren’t afraid to hike miles to get to a worthwhile cache.

Archived- but who cares when it’s one of the greatest caches ever placed in Wisconsin? Take a hike, post a note, enjoy. Lone Rock

They’re all a long ways from you. But, looking through my suggestions you kind of have a habit of doing most every difficult and fun cache around. They’re all the kind of cache that’s fun just to study maps of and dream about going to some day too (at least I do that). That might tide you over for a while right there.

Thanks, you know…..we’re hoping we can still do a run up the North Shore and Silver Island Treasure is one we hope we can do. There are about three in Duluth I hope to do, too, but will be happy if we get to one of them on this hoped for trip.

I do like dreaming and studying….there’s one up near Solon Springs I keep looking at, but is probably best saved for late fall. It’s called Beaver Land.

Maybe worth a group planned outing? Although it seemed like last winter, our plans never would work out for us, which is why we often just had to go it alone. We’re in this place right now where things happen.

I think there are actually a bunch up your way we still haven’t tried yet, too. How are the mosquitoes up there? 🙄 The birding lists are talking about the huge displays of Green Darner dragonflies, with the thought that the mosquitoes this summer are feeding them well. I can usually tolerate them, but this summer I’ve been in misery. Even with jeans, my legs are horribly bitten up.

As for Lone Rock, I have it on good authority that Hotdogs Off Trail are planning to lead a post picnic hike there. Unfortunately, we have to go to a wedding that weekend. Might make for a great fall color hike, though.

We did Sweetlife’s ATV Series at the end of July when they were first published with OPPS5 and our grandkids. You don’t need an ATV, but there is a lot of scenic driving on sand covered fire lanes to get near the caches. We all enjoyed these a lot. The hikes were not very far once we got near to them, but the adventure of manuvering on the winding sandy trails to get to them was lots of fun. They are just south of Mountain. There are several other “hike to” caches in the area too. Seldom Seens Lookout Above Remnants is a great one. I even have an unfound one in the area that’s almost 2 weeks old now.

If you feel the need for some numbers too we stopped at about 20 quick ones in between the hiking ones.

There are plenty to go around. We don’t mind sharing…

Actually, they seem to be the worst they’ve been all summer from what I can tell. But, even at that, it’s not bad. Last Wednesday at Tesomas (one of the greatest Scout camps in all the land) was the first time all summer I’ve used any repellent.

You haven’t done my Ursa Minor series yet 😆

GC24TT4 should put you on the map. There’s hiking, paddling, wildlife, BIRDS. And just a few mosquitoes.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

Take the quick ride to Manitowoc for those bakers dozen of the Harry Potter series! But do it right after a good heavy rain and let me know how you did! We still have 3 to go there! 😮

Start here: (GC269MB). The other 12 are within walking distance. Bring DEET, a walking stick, and some water. You WILL remember the hike! 😉

The Potter Series is a good workout. First time out we got 11 and went back for the other two. The hardest took us 4 hours and it was nap time after that.

This park was one of the most challenging groupings of caches that we have encountered for both terrain and difficulty. Hunted these with Doctor Dolittle and the Ecorangers. Very satisfying experience when we were finally finished. I think it took us4-5 hours for about 20 caches.

Robert O Cook is a challanging park any time of year. The terrain will beat you down pretty quick. Now the real challange is where to hold next years pancake event. 🙄

I’m still planning the Longtail Point caches as some point in Sept. or early Oct….I know that you had expressed an interest in them too…and there are some other good ones up here in NE Wis that are fun caches that don’t necessarily require long hikes. You could work them into a Packer weekend 😀

Now those are two that would be fun. We’ll have to keep in touch Rod, there are a few things up that way we want to do eventually anyway….like the Tricachelon in the Reforestation Camp and stuff in Barkhausen, for example.
Plus finding a couple solved puzzles.

There is a silver ammo can you havent found, located between 2 SNA’s, its only like a half mile hike but it has a water crossing, no trails and lots of nature to see befoe you get to it. You should be able to eat enough blackberrys on the way to satisfy a good hunger also. Only like a 25 minute drive or so for you to. GC2AC4N
