So I am very new to this geocaching and would like some HELP ! I need someone who has the patients to teach me how to locate and just use my gps. I have two older units “Lowrance Ifinder”. I am located in Montello and have an old pickup for travel.
Hi, damando!
If your old pick-up can make it to just north of Adams-Friendship, you’re in luck! The WGA Picnic is being held at Roche-A-Cri State Park all day this Saturday, and I would think there would be someone there who could help you with your receiver and learning the caching ropes. It’s a social event, but there will be lots of caching going on there. Come in the morning to get registered, then ask around to see who can help. There will be newbies to veterans, all ages, and all experiences at the picnic. There is a state parks fee of $7 per vehicle, unless you already have an annual sticker, but everything else is free.
See all the specifics on the event page at geocaching.com
Event Cache # is GC29P5H.
The GPS you have is what I’ve used for 3 years. I will be at the CITO and noon lunch, but need to head out in the afternoon. If you can get to the park in Adams at 10 AM or before, I can do some coaching then, and you can get more pointers in the afternoon.
The CITO event is a clean-up of a park in the city of Adams. 8-10 a.m. this Saturday. GC event # is GC2CWF5
That one is totally free except for a bit of trash pick-up on your part. Jim can be a great help to you if you meet up with him either at the clean-up event or at the picnic.
