does anyone have the nuvi 500
how many caches will it hold
it says 500 waypoints but that is not caches
like the oregon it says 2000 waypoints and it will hold 5000 geocaches09/25/2010 at 12:04 am #1936481if it is anything like the nuvi200, the custom waypoints are only limited by the size of the SD card.

Barry, is that using the GSAK macro giving all the cache info or just the waypoint/coords?

09/25/2010 at 2:47 am #1936484GSAK macro with just the Waypoint and Coords,
with the 550 dont need all the other stuff in the nuvibut did have about 2000 the other way before we got the 550
09/25/2010 at 12:38 pm #1936485Doing it the same way you do your Oregon with th GPX, you can get I think 1000. I have never had more than that on mine. Using GSAK as many as you want.

OK – I don’t want to hijack this thread, but I’m curious. I’ve never loaded cache info (other than WP/Coordinate) to my Nuvi 205W. I normally load all the cache data into my iPod Touch.
1) I’m assuming there’s a GSAK macro to copy data to the Nuvi. Does anyone know the name of the macro.
2) How do I access the additional info on the Nuvi (i.e. which screen or icon do I use)?09/25/2010 at 2:41 pm #1936487Don’t know if this will help you, Ed, but it’s a link that helped me get started when I got my Nuvi 200 a couple of years ago:
http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/index.htmlAs far as the menu is concerned, use the arrow to find the “Extras” page…that’s where the custiom POI’s…in this case, geocaches…will be stored 😀
Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
09/25/2010 at 3:10 pm #1936488Continuing the hijack…
We got a Nuvi 205W this summer, but we have a Mac. MacCaching does the job of GSAK, but it looks like we might need Parallels Desktop for the macro from bartrod’s link. Our computer can handle the requirements, but does anyone have experience with Parallels? Or should we just get an iPod? Or upgrade our receiver… again? (We have a Legend HCx) 😕
09/25/2010 at 5:13 pm #1936489garmin_nuvi_exportgpx is the one I have been using.
there is another that I have not tried but looks to do a similar task
Nuvi69CsxGarminCsvPoiExportor maybe ConvertNuviGPX
all on http://gsak.net/board/MacroIndex.php

the garmin POI loader will load these to the nuvi in the Custom POI file accessible from the Extras target.
When you touch a cache listing target, touch MORE and you will have the text for the description and other information for the cache. of course, no photos. Additional waypoints also load as child waypoints.
