I’m headed out with my girls (8 / 11) this Friday to the Fox Valley area for a few caches. Most of the Flat Jack caches are done, but we’re looking for recommended Kid Caches.
Currently I have the following on the list:
Old School | Slip, Slide & Away (GC20K9T)
Look What The Cat Dragged In (GC24MEN)
Heckrodt Wetland Reserve (GC27TR3)
PUC | I’ll Come Bouncing Back (GC1C9JB)Based on recommendations and recollections from our kids, ages 8 and 11, here’s a list that’s pretty much clustered in the downtown. Not sure how many of these you’ve already found:
While you’re doing “Bouncing Back,” which is a must-do, go find GC1CT2N Grubby Fingers.
We also liked GC107AF, Opti-Mistic, if you take the time to do the ALR, which I’m sure you will. While you’re in the area of Opti-Mistic, you could try GC1F6Q8, if your kids are old enough to work on the field-solve part–it’s interesting but the final is your basic micro. Then swing back and do GCZTFJ, Consult the Oracle–our kids loved “signing” the log book in that one.
Also in the general downtown area–maybe over lunch?–be sure to do “Pace Yourself.” GC1693Q. This is our kids’ all-time Appleton favorite. Whether you do the following ones is up to you. We did the night cache Pace Yourself but, while they enjoyed looking for the signs, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for kids. GC10AE7 is also one of our all time favorites and you’ll be in the area, and the kids will like the final if it hasn’t changed.
If you want to do some desk-solves beforehand, and if you have older kids, they’ll probably enjoy the container of GC1DC1G. You also might want to solve GC1C0XF if you’re doing some of the above caches. Our kids also liked the story behind GC18ZD5, so if you want a quiet cache mixed in there that would be a good one.
If you’re staying late, for night caches, I highly recommend GC205QP, but be warned that it is very difficult to find the trail, and the location is very creepy. If you want a night cache that has the brightest fire-tack trails around, try GC1HJR7. It is a bit out of your way, but it also looks like the cache container was replaced so it is perfect for this time of year.
There are more I could recommend, including some good crawling and spelunking caches, but the above andyour list will keep you busy. At least with our kids, about a dozen is the limit.

I looked at this one, but was wavering which is why I asked for recommendations. I’ll add this one to the list.

Good point – I filtered out all the ones I’ve done but this is a good one and easy enough for both of them to solve with a fun ALR.

This is on the list, but I forgot to add it. My oldest is very artistic and she’s looking forward to doing this one.

My oldest daughter and I did these last summer and had a blast. Definately a fun time.

Pink = Solved / Unfound list, but never thought about taking the kids, so maybe I’ll have them help me with the find on this one.
Diffendoofer = They helped me solve it, I found it froze tightly in place and never signed, so great idea. And the great memory of my log which included “I managed to get my size 12 EEE boot wedged in a VERY VERY BAD spot”

Exactly the same for our kids. 8-12 depending on what they’re like. I’m also building the list and reviewing with them to let them “own” the list, so even though I have one thought, they may choose otherwise.
But all recommendations are welcome as I continue building the menu for them to pick from. No night caches though as we need to be headed home by around 2 pm.

I would definately vote for Grubby Fingers and Consult the Oracle. I loved The Greys , container may be a little scary for your girls. I have a picture if you want to see it. Moonlighting for a Cache is another night cache nearby but it’s currently disabled.
Goliath’s Bison GC1Z8CC and Tweety’s Home for Wayward Travel Bugs GCM1H4 are next to each other and have fun containers. Kiss & Makeup GC22QN0 is not far away and also has a fun container.
Other favorites with fun containers are outside Appleton and in opposite directions. Hog Heaven GCWT2K is northwest of Fox River Mall. Lake Algae GC2AJ45 is in Little Chute.
