Last February, the WGA Board of Directors decided that we would focus more on developing regional CITO events. We felt that this would enable us to reach out to more areas of the state, and would also be living up to our mission statement. The board voted to sponsor 6 CITOs during 2010, with a budget of $900 for the 6 events.

As it turned out, we were able to exceed our goal, and sponsored 7 CITOs last year, and all were tremendously successful. Thank you to all of the WGA members who helped out to make these events the success that they were.

At the February Board meeting, the board will reorganize, and it will be up to the incoming board whether to continue this emphasis on CITOs. (I hope that it does.)

Pending working with partners, and the decisions of the new board, the current board has penciled in the start of the 2011 CITO schedule. Please note that this is preliminary at this point, but even so, I wanted to get the information out there for others who may be planning spring events.

So here is the tentative spring CITO schedule:

    April 16 Gibraltrar
    April 23 Appleton
    April 30 Hwy 10

    thanks

Any CITO events planned for the SE area. (Ozaukee County, Milwaukee County, Washington County?) Thanks.

I’ll come to yours if you host one.

Not yet. If you, or EnergySaver, or anyone else wants to propose a CITO to the board for 2011, that would be wonderful.

Last year, EnergySaver had one at Harrington Beach that I really wanted to get to, but had to work. I have not talked to him about doing it again in 2011, but hope that he chooses to. See GC25114. Maybe you can offer to assist?

We havent yet been to one, so I’m not sure what to expect or propose. We would be happy to work with EnergySaver or one of the more experienced teams in the area to get our feet wet on getting something like this together in our area. Until we learn more about group events and special events like a cleanup, we would be more than happy to assist. 😆

Would there be a problem having a WGA CITO held the same day as another WGA CITO event?

We (the local cachers in Racine/Kenosha) were looking into having one in Racine on April 23rd. I see that the Appleton CITO is the same day. We had planned it for earlier, but the park and rec gave us a deal on a shelter with running water if we had it on Earth Day.

We talked local caching legend (is there such a thing?) brkster into listing the event…you know, to give it a little star power. However, our local coffee/geocaching group, the Belle City Coffee Clutch is splitting up the responsibilities.

I will refer the question to the board to decide.

We did have 2 on the same day last year, and like in your situation, they were geographically far apart, so it was not a problem. So, personally I dont see where there would be a problem, but as I said the board as a whole will have to consider it.

The other thing to note is that April 23 is pretty much the prime day for a CITO, given that Earth Day falls then.

I’m hoping by “deal” you’re implying the shelter is being provided free — if it’s in the park your cleaning. I’ve never paid rental on the shelter when volunteering to clean. Downside of that is you take what you can get but in Appleton, I’ve never ran into much “competition” in terms of shelters already being reserved. And the high-demand shelters tend to be in parks that aren’t recommended “targets” for cleanup by the park and rec.

Jake, I’d be glad to help out with the CITO in any way I can. You have my number, fill me in as you plan, or I can help with that too. 🙂

It was more of an issue with the running water/bathroom issues that they asked us to have a bit later than we were planning. Yes, they gave it to us free of charge.

Is that Gibraltar as in Fish Creek? Could I be so lucky to have one that close?

I see the Belle City CITO has already been published as a “non-wga” event.
