I’m assuming they turn on and everything else seems to work normal?

First thoughts are possibly a bad USB cable? Do you have another cable? Or did you test another unit with this same cable?

Second thought is that perhaps a change in your system (Operating system or upgrade)? If you’re using Windows you should here a beep / ding when you plug in the device and turn it on.

Third thought is to ensure it’s turned on after plugging it in. I know this is probably a no brainer, but just thinking of all the possibilities and knowing of my own stupid past mistakes.

    Forth thought?

The Garmin Communicator when it appears shows up-loads for DeLorme, Magellan and Garmin. One time for some reason it defaulted to the DeLorme and it took me a bit to realize this. After a clicked for Garmin it worked fine.

The most recent communicator version is 2.9.3.0 older version might cause the error or inability to locate.

The computer won’t recognize the GPS. It will recognize the USB converter when it is plugged in.

I would start by plugging in the USB adapter first. If the computer does not recognize it then try a different one if you have one.
