The 2011 WGA Fall Picnic will be held September 17, 2011 at Brunet Island State Park on the Chippewa River near Cornell, Wisconsin.
In order to make this event run smoothly, the WGA BOD is looking for members who would dedicate their time to serving on the Picnic Committee. The BOD needs your help with the planning and running of this event. It is a satisfying adventure. If you would be able to serve on the committee, you can post to this thread or PM me.
Looking forward to Fall!

members do not need to be local to the site location to participate in the committee. to have someone from that area is a HUGE plus however.
Much of the planning happens in the committee forum. It would be good if you are on the committee to be able to attend the event.Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.
07/14/2011 at 8:14 pm #1949074Is there an information page on this yet? We live in the Milwaukee area but we have land and a hunting shack up near Cornell so I’m hoping to go. I guess I’m a little hesitant to commit to helping though since it is so far away, just in case something would come up.

07/25/2011 at 8:00 pm #1949077Lostboyst5, if you have any other local cachers nearby that you could entice into assisting, it would be a great help. we really need locals to scout out and recon as well as notify committee about resources near the site. As this is a one day event, the need to place a bunch of caches is not top on the list but a few new ones in or near the park would be nice for those who have cached that area already.

07/26/2011 at 5:06 am #1949079Not trying to be snarky here but maybe that should have been taken into consideration before picking the location. Not too many local cachers around them parts. I’d love to help, but that aint local for me.
07/26/2011 at 1:03 pm #1949080How many miles away should they be? We have some hunting land up near there that we could place a bunch of temporary caches but the only ones we’d want permenantly would be one in a guardrail or something right on the road. As much as I’d love to put a whole bunch of caches out there I don’t think our family wants to worry about who is on the property when hunting or just target practice.

FYI – We no longer place temporary caches for WGA events other than night caches and “kid friendly” (i.e. candy) caches.
07/26/2011 at 3:04 pm #1949083It appears that the park has room for some additional permanent caches.

Thanks for the commentary.
We move around the events to the four different quadrants of the state so that all members get a closer chance at attending and volunteering for WGA events. If you’re lucky enough to have one in your backyard, that’s great. But for most attendees (and most board members) at most WGA events, we all do have to travel to attend. This makes it possible for more members (and more board members) to attend.
While this particular event may not be in Hayward, it’s closer to your neck of the woods right?
If you choose not to volunteer or attend when it gets closer to you, that’s your choice.
It’s sorta like how musical acts choose where to have concerts and how fans choose whether they want to go to a concert that gets close to them.
And now back on topic…
Thanks to those WGA members that live near this event location who have stepped up or are thinking about stepping up to volunteer. It is a very rewarding experience. Hope to see you in the fall!
