(I swear I saw a similar topic or reply somewhere but I can’t seem to find it; apologies.)

My husband and I are making this weekend about numbers to make sure we reach our modest annual goal before I start grad. school (as for socialization, we won’t have the time to do the evening get together or pancake breakfast due to his work schedule. 😕 ). Assuming I can even download the right coordinates Thursday evening we’re considering getting an early start Friday morning for the finds (West Bend having a Starbucks is a motivating factor).

What do ya’ll think? We’re kinda pokey so I doubt we’ll knock off too many between caching and family visits for the weekend. I’m sure other people will be going for FTF but we don’t want to ruin it somehow for other cachers (obviously we’re not going to run off with the stamps!). Would that be ruining the spirit of the event?

What about going back and stamping anything we found after we get our log?

The caches were published the night before last year too and very few were found before noon on Friday. You won’t be stoned or anything like that if you look for them early on Friday, but everyone has to decide what kind of opinion you want other geocachers to have of you. So my opinion is the event starts at noon on Friday.

BUT, once a cache is published it’s free game. Just sayin’.

Like a good puzzle cache, I’d say to error on the side of “Respect the intent”. If it’s numbers you’d like, what about the rest of the caches in the area (unless you’ve found them all already). Just my opinion and certainly meant to generalize not single anyone out.

/facepalm Thanks for the suggestion. Of course we can go after the other caches in the area in the a.m.. I hadn’t thought of that. 😳

We’re from West Bend and the surrounding area but we’ve actually done next to nothing for caching there. We’re always running around for family obligations.

Thanks everyone for the input. I feel a little silly now!

You may feel silly, but CJ is all aglow! 😉

Looks like we have logs on a couple already that have been published and then disablement followed…. interesting.

Looks like a bunch of them were published already.

Whoops, looks like they’ve been unpublished now 😯

Follow up to this…we don’t have a chance for many FTFs as we’re usually working or in school when things are published. We would have been FTF on several event caches but they were found earlier in the morning. So I guess my opinion would be that it is more fun to wait for the event to start.

Definitely more fun to wait to do the caches until the event actually begins. I do not understand the purpose or running around in the middle of the night (actually wee hours of the morning) and chasing FTF’s when the event did not officially begin until noon on Friday. Thanks for waiting on the new caches. It seems like there were only a few who felt they needed to be searching the event caches at 1 in the morning….I think that was tacky.

For the record there was a technical glitch on Friday and the caches all listed at midday for a few minutes…long enough for quick folks (like myself) to grab all the coordinates. People could have found these as early as 2pm on Friday.

I wasn’t there, but I agree it’s tacky. These were geared for the event, and people decided they just couldn’t wait. Of course one of these same people had to steal a FTF for a birthday tribute cache for a child a few months ago.

2 a.m.’ing finds for a FTF is it still a game if no one plays?

lol, the local deer population says its still a sport even if only one participant knows its playing. 😀
