Thought this forum could use a thread for sharing Quotes that members find meaningful, and worth sharing, In Your Honest Opinion. These could include things that strike you as motivating, profound, hilarious, you-name-it. Or maybe not. But here’s a start:
Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.Ralph Waldo Emerson

The work will wait while you show the child a rainbow,
but the rainbow won’t wait while you do the work.— Patricia Clifford
02/08/2012 at 9:03 pm #1956456There are two motivations in sports… which is yours?
It was from a New Balance commercial a while back. the two motivations are supposedly Love and Money. My two favorite quotes attributed to someone are both from Steve Prefontaine:
“to give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”
“a lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. i run to see who has the most guts.”
02/08/2012 at 9:06 pm #1956457I guess I’m a sucker for sports advertising. I also had an adidas shirt with David Beckham on the front that I wore right through…
impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. impossible is not a fact. it’s an opinion. impossible is not a declaration. it’s a dare. impossible is potential. impossible is temporary.
Impossible Is Nothing02/08/2012 at 9:57 pm #1956458There are so many wonderful quotes in this world but a personal saying I try to live by is:
“If it involves getting lost in the wilderness, I probably like it.”
There is truly something special about walking off that beaten path in the middle of nowhere and exploring an area that few if any people have ever been. With use of a GPS unit today instead of a compass that I always use to rely on in the past, it just makes getting lost a bit more difficult.

I am not sure who said it but I have always liked it..02/09/2012 at 1:45 pm #1956461“The mountains are calling and I must go.” -John Muir
I actually have a t-shirt that says this. I feel this way a lot of the time.

02/09/2012 at 2:47 pm #1956462A couple of my favorites:
“From what we get, we can make a living. What we give, however, makes a life.” — Arthur Ashe
“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” – Susan Sontag
02/09/2012 at 3:40 pm #1956463I like two from the replacements:
Quicksand: You’re playing and you think everything is going fine. Then one thing goes wrong. And then another. And another. You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can’t move… you can’t breathe… because you’re in over your head. Like quicksand.

The motto of Scouting is Be Prepared.
Someone once asked Baden-Powell, “Be prepared for what?”
To which, he responded:
“Why, for any old thing.”
