Scrappy Scout and Auntie Nae are teaching Geo 101 at Pike Lake State Park. For the June 16th session, there are already 60+ people interested in attending. THESE ARE NON-GEOCACHERS! We need a few experienced cachers to go afield with the “students” and show a few basics on finding a cache with a GPS unit.
What a great opportunity to make an impact on the general public, as well as giving people a reason to get out and enjoy Wisconsin!
Along with this posting, I would also like to mention that the BOD discussed having a “Train the Trainer” class, for members to learn how to teach a group on Geo 101, and the resources available.
As a prerequisite to “Train the Trainer”, it would be great to attend a Geo 101 session this summer, to familiarize yourself with how easy it is to share geocaching with new people.
As of this post, there are 5 classes scheduled in the next 3 monthes; 3 at Pike Lake, 1 at Kohler-Andrae, and 1 at Roche-Cri.
There may be a new growth spurt on the horizon as more people stay closer to home (staycations, there called) for recreation.
Contact any Geo 101 host to let them know of your willingness to help out and share the fun! Check the “Events” listings in the menu on the left side of this page.
I would love to help out and talk about the Outdoor Ethics side of things but I will be up in Rhinelander picking up my daughter from NYLT.
I would be very much interested in a Train the Trainer-type course. My supervisor at the YMCA would now like me to make a geocaching class a regular part of their activities.
