Okay, here’s a different kind of thread….I try to be a “foodie.” Other foodies know what that means, trying to eat healthy and well. If we are able, we like to find a nice local place for lunch, but so much of the time, our trips are planned on the fly and then no time is taken to plan ahead the food part.
So, to keep yourself eating healthy while on the hunt, what do others do?

PB&J sandwiches
Fiber One Bars
Apples & Bananas10/17/2012 at 7:34 pm #1965130I make our own snacks at home so there’s always stuff around:
Onion-Carrot Bread
Power Bars
Trail Mix
PBJs for the boys
Sliced Veggies10/17/2012 at 8:36 pm #196513110/17/2012 at 8:42 pm #1965132I agree, I think we need a recipe. I have so many carrots from our farm share!
10/17/2012 at 8:57 pm #1965133I have multiple recipes for jerky and make my own. I usually have a bag of that (venison) when I’ve been fortunate enough to get a deer although I will use cheap beef in a pinch to make some.
Dried cranberries and cherries are a favorite of mine.
Unusual trail mix combinations. Don’t make my own but I look for something with an unusual mix.
One or two water bottles with the bottom half frozen the night before and I just top it off. Nothing better than a “cold” drink of water.

Onion-Carrot Bread
That is an interesting item.
3/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup flax seed
both ground up
1/2 cup tamari
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cup thin sliced onion
2 cup shredded carroti use our food processor for the veggies, then dehydrate 105 degree for 6-8 hours, flip and dehydrate another 3 hours or so
10/17/2012 at 9:35 pm #1965136So you dehydrate the veggies before baking? How would it turn out if a person just added them raw before baking? Maybe I should try it out. Seriously, I have a whole vegetable drawer full of them and even I can only eat so much carrot cake! Thanks for sharing.
10/17/2012 at 9:45 pm #1965137raw bread, no baking required. yummy live enzymes are good for you.
10/17/2012 at 10:44 pm #1965138Almonds! I always have almonds on hand and Greek yogurt in the fridge. Both are healthy food items! Protein shakes are good too!

Let me know the next time your travels are bringing you to Hippieville and I’ll make up a batch.
10/17/2012 at 11:52 pm #1965141Screamin’ Mimi 60’s deviled eggs…she usually makes up a batch before we go caching. They’re to DIE for!!! Not necessarily healthy…but go-o-o-od…really look forward to them after a hike in the woods 😀

Or eat them before while winter caching, and they will give a little warmth in the coveralls
