First…I have no idea who nominated me but I am honored and humbled to think that another cacher believes I would do well to serve on the BOD. Thank you…whoever you may be.
The best way to introduce myself is to meet you at my hotel…GCVDAH…where I HAVE met many of you but the next best way would be to take a look at my personal webpage which is listed both on my WGA profile and on Geocaching.com. Pay particular attention to the “sample logs” tab as it will show you the inner Commander.
A quick background…started caching in 2005, have 24 states all days of the year and all counties in Wisconsin. That came after GrammyB (my wife) got cabin fever in April of 2012 and wanted to go anywhere to get away for a bit. Her first suggestion I poo-pooed and she countered with “let’s finish the counties you haven’t got yet”. When I did the planning I realized it was going to be well over 1200 miles and several days but I knew that I wouldn’t get an opportunity again like this from “she who must be obeyed” so we were off. Some of the favorites on that trip were in little Florence county and I even got to see old friends (Timberline Echos) that I generally only get to see at events.
What would I bring to the board? Well, obviously I am not a youngster as by the time you read this I will have been retired from the Navy for as long as I served…20 years so I bring the other end of the spectrum to the board and a different perspective. I do like to bring new cachers into the community and I have brought in several and hope to bring in many more. I also will work with local officials on Geocaching issues and did get the insane requirement that was initially placed on Madison area parks removed. You will have to decide but I know most of the other candidates and I am confident that no matter who is elected, the WGA will have super people keeping the association going.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
    The Commander
