First saw geocaching in July. Was trying to think of things to do that would get me and the family out and about during the winter last week so I took a look online. Was excited to find that there were three caches just down the road from my house and over 800 within 30 miles.
We’ve gone out a couple times now and racked up four finds (two in near Antigo and two near Wausau) and as many “didn’t find.” We also learned that if a cache isn’t tagged as “accessible in winter” then it might be one we should pass on in January.
We’ve always loved the outdoors and could use the exercise so we’ve really committed to being very active. Plus finding hidden treasures is serious excitement for an eight year old. We’ve even already signed up for the 2013 Great Cache Ba$h in West Bend.
Hope to see some of you on the trails and in West Bend.

01/11/2013 at 1:36 am #1967043Hello from Wausau!
There are a lot of winter accessable caches in the area, and even a lot that you might not think would be can still be found.

01/11/2013 at 4:13 am #1967046Thanks everybody for the welcome.
I have been working on making a list for this weekend. There are quite a few caches marked as available in the winter, that have been found since the last good snowfall, or that look like they would probably be good.
There are certainly enough to keep us busy.

Sure thing. If we start running low I’ll be in touch. I’m sure you know of some in the area that don’t have attributes set but really are findable without digging through the snow.
Who knows though… by Saturday there might not be any snow left to hide caches.
