Fresh ideas are essential for growth but we don’t have to reinvent the wheel each year.
As members of the WGA, what do you see as the strengths our association has and how do you see that benefitting the members?
Following the signals from space.
I feel that our biggest strength is how we advocate our CITO’s. I feel that giving back to the community is vital in aiding to our growth.
The strengths I see in the members of the WGA are diversity and willingness to lead.
Over the years I’ve been caching I’ve seen the amount of CITOs and other events grow exponentially. There are classes for the beginning Geocaching, GSAK tutorials, CITOs, new cache series and social get-togethers popping up all over the state.
Members don’t sit waiting for direction from the BOD. They are out placing caches, putting together events and volunteering. I had said this previously- it’s the members that are the strength of the association, There’s no way that the 9 board members would be effective if not for everyone else.
I hope to get more people involved and allow them the chance to highlight their individual strengths to make caching in WI even better (is that possible?).

I’d have to agree with CacheNoTtace with saying the CITO’s are one of our biggest strengths. Giving back to the community and keeping a good connection there can only benefit the WGA now and in the future. Also, would have to agree with Walkingadventure on our groups diversity. There are people of all ages and backgrounds involved in geocaching and that gives the WGA a very well rounded bunch. I don’t believe there is really any wrong answer to this question though. The WGA as a whole has so many strengths and we see those strengths in the faces of those at events, the volunteers, the teams out placing caches, anyone who participates in the forums and discussions. We are lucky to have such a large group of people around our state involved on a daily basis. That alone is a great strength, we only continue to grow every year with more and more passionate geocachers.
I think that the WGA’s biggest strength is that it is made up of members that are passionate about this hobby. At events people seem genuinely happy and really enjoy themselves. At my first WGA picnic I got there and realized that I’d forgotten plates for our family to eat on and some person that I’ve never met gave me some plates. I also was there without my husband and so someone helped me haul the canoe down to the water when I was going to take the kids out in it. The BOD needs to shoulder a lot of the responsibilities of running things but it also needs other volunteers to help out and I’ve seen a lot of people step up and help, even in small ways like giving me some plates.

We have a fairly large group of people from all walks of life. Most of us step up as volunteers or go off and start our own projects that promote geocaching and the WGA.
