We currently have 34 Cache Rescue missions! That’s too many, and way too much geotrash out in the woods.

If you can help out with any of these missions, let’s git ‘er done!

Some are under a bunch of snow. Things will pick up when it melts.

I agree with sandlanders’ statement. I have my eye on the one in Janesville, as I had found it before, but there is a lot of snow and it may have been moved.

Don’t take this as coming from cranky old fahts , just old fahts  .

We have a tendency to be tardy on logging caches, but we always log Cache Rescues as quickly as possible, usually from a phone. It’s the one time we want to be sure to get the word out to others, “don’t waste your gas and energy on this one, as the opportunity is gone.” πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    So Question on this –

Does a Rescue get listed for all archives? The only reason I ask is recently TBB went through and archived quite a few – not sure if they were all missing anyway or what but How do we know they are gone?

Other than rescues posted by the cache owner, the only other rescues are posted when a reviewer archives a listing that appears to still be in place. If the cache was archived for being disabled too long, and no one found it after it was disabled, we assume the CO took care of removing it.

we can only assume that the CO will remove the cache when they archive. Unfortunately, that may not always be the case.

Cache owners: please police your own containers. Don’t assume that if a cache has numerous DNFs that say it is missing, that it is missing. Confirmed missing from a previous finder may help but as the owner, you are still responsible to remove any inactive/archived caches. Please and thank you.

Team DeeJay answered the question pretty well. Someone can submit a rescue mission, but it needs to be approved by the administrator (Team DeeJay). The only other way is if a state volunteer reviewer (Team DeeJay) submits a rescue mission on a cache that is quite obviously gone.

    8) Yeah, Rescues & FTFs I try to get done ASAP so others know. My 2 CRs are done, finds from Feb not so much, but I’m getting there. πŸ˜‰

I have some concerns about cachers not wanting to have their caches anymore and just listing them for cache rescue and the LCG points. If they are active enough in the game to do that, they are active enough to go out and pull their own containers. They put them in the woods, they can remove them from the woods.

Exceptions would be if they are no longer in the area or if they now have some physical disabilities that prevent them from going to their cache locations. Another CR by CO that would be acceptable (IMO) would be if caches needed maintenance, especially in a timely manner, and for some reason or another the COs can’t do it themselves.

I’ll admit that I still need to pick up my last 6 archived Alphabet Soup containers. If it ever stops snowing, that’s the next outing!
