Thursday starts the 31 days of geocaching souvenirs being awarded… one for each day in August that you find a cache or attend an event.
Which poll option best describes your caching action in this next month?07/30/2013 at 3:40 am #1971249I’m planning to cache as I usually do. I could have answered:
“No, there’s no way I could get them all”
“No, the whole thing is a bunch of hooey”
or “meh”All of them apply
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
07/30/2013 at 4:03 am #1971250We once did the 366 days in a row streak and it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever do that again. Thirty-one days in a row isn’t so bad in comparison, especially in Milwaukee where there’s 2,492 caches within 10 miles of our home. We’ll probably go for it.
I wonder if those that do get the 31 days in a row for August will continue that streak β
OOH! I just noticed that this is post #600 for me!
07/30/2013 at 5:17 am #1971251I’ll do them all, but only so I can finish up some of the souvenir challenges in Eau Claire π
07/30/2013 at 7:16 am #1971252I will cache as I usually do, but I certainly agree with BigJim. I like the idea of souvenirs for cool things like states and countries, or peculiar dates (i.e. 12-12-12), but it kind of takes the fun out of things when a whole bunch of souvenirs come so easily (or not so easily in my case). π³
07/30/2013 at 11:19 am #1971253No I will cache as the mood or weather allows.
I like to go to my souvenir page and gaze at my accomplishments.
31 additional icons would just cheapen that. π π07/30/2013 at 12:49 pm #1971254I’ll probably try for it if I remember but I can’t say that it’s a top priority. I actually have plenty close to home that I haven’t found yet so I just may try.

07/30/2013 at 1:27 pm #1971255I’m thinking that for me, gas prices alone will prevent a 31 day streak, unless I go find ones I’ve already found.

07/30/2013 at 1:32 pm #1971256I have a feeling that this whole thing is going to inspire even more stopsign/guardrail hides so people can get a nearby smiley for the day.

07/30/2013 at 1:58 pm #1971257We’ll give it a go for the same reason as KFH. Overall, I’d much rather get travel-related ones, but hopefully we’ll get one of those next week.
07/30/2013 at 4:03 pm #1971258I think the real challenge here is – try NOT to cache in
August so we can NOT get these souvenirs on our profile page – πSo far, I only have two and those are for caching in MI and WI.
07/30/2013 at 4:12 pm #1971259I’m thinking when I cache in August – I’ll wait and log all my finds on September 1st. It’ll avoid getting those silly meaningless pixels.
07/30/2013 at 4:39 pm #1971260You can still log them for August. But you have to wait a certain time. I think Groundspeak will give you a certain amount of time to log your August finds before they take away the souvenirs.
07/30/2013 at 6:45 pm #1971261If you log a find in August and then delete it (so you can relog it for September to avoid the souvenir), you’ll still be “stuck” with the souvenir.
We found that out the hard way. We accidently logged a battleship find but used the wrong battleship cache – one in Vermont instead of WI. We deleted the erroneous log and resubmitted it for the WI version, but now still have a Vermont souvenir that we didn’t earn. π‘
On the bright side we know how to acquire a souvenir for all 50 states a la armchair. π
