Can anyone suggest free or reasonably priced software for creating a newsletter? I am taking over that job for my local Audubon. I’ve made these things before, but the software I had doesn’t work with my computer now (I used MS Publisher in the past). I work with a PC. Windows 7, I think. Thanks for any tips. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but I’d like it to allow adding borders and that kind of stuff to make it look spiffy. What I do have is pretty minimal in that regard. Thanks.

I have used MS Publisher in the past also.

MS Publisher is available on Microsoft Store website for download by it self. You don’t have to buy the entire office package.

To me though, it is over priced for just MS Publisher.

Another thought, Do you still work for a school? Microsoft has some very steep discounts for teachers and students.

No, we retired and I resigned from my part time teaching job last spring. No more deals for us! I have come across some supposedly “free” downloads of Publisher 2007. One looks like the c-net site. Is that stuff safe? Is it free because there are newer versions? That would probably work just fine for me, if it’s safe to download and truly free.

Birdin’ have you looked on Ebay for MS Publisher? There are some for less than $10. Not sure if one from the UK would be good idea though.

I’ve used the Print Shop from Broderbund in the past.

I’ve always bought older versions because they are usually cheaper. But current versions are still cheaper than Microsoft’s Publisher. About $50 right now.

I think they have a trial option so if they do, it’s worth checking out.

I agree with Todd – The Print Shop is a good choice and fairly intuitive to use. For printed newsletters, cards, posters, etc. I usually use either MS Publisher, The Print Shop Deluxe, or MS Word. The Print Shop has been around for years and I think my wife and I started using it about 12 years ago, which for computers seems like forever.

If you’re looking for software to create online newsletters, then that’s a whole new issue.

I got through the first one with my elderly (2002) version of Word. It sufficed. Hopefully with some experimentation, I can find out how to get Word to do some of the things to improve the appearance, which I think is possible if I can figure out the various commands. We had Print Shop ages ago and liked it. I’m not sure why we never upgraded it, other than we get annoyed with the speed at which these things change and need new add-ons.

Call me a Luddite. 🙄 I really have issues with a lot of technology and see it as a necessary evil in our world.
