I am sad to say that Ron Fromm (Energy Saver) passed away Saturday afternoon. I do not have service or memorial information yet, but if you pm me, I will let you know when I do.
He introduced me to geocaching and was a very good friend. I and many others will miss him greatly.
We’re stunned. He has been real helpful as the liaison between the DNR and geocaching for most if not all of the caches at Harrington, and helped us out when we placed the WGA state park cache there earlier this month. The DNR ranger for Harrington Beach SP would actually consult Ron before approving caches in the park. He was protective of the environment and an asset to the geocaching community, and will be missed. It is comforting for us to know that Ron had an eternal perspective; on his profile page he quotes Jesus from John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” We know that Ron is now in a better place.
I am so sorry to hear this. Far too soon. Though we did not get to meet him, I did some of his hides along the lakefront in port Washington and enjoyed them a lot.
I’m sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. He made great caches that made great memories. Our community was only a part of his life, but he made many, many people happy among us, and there’s comfort to be found in that.
I believe that I met him at an event or two but we did not know each other well. But I did very much enjoy his caches out at Harrington Beach. I’m sorry to hear of his loss but happy to hear that he is now with his Lord. Thank you for letting us know of his passing. My condolences go out to his family and friends.
We were at Harrington Beach the day after Ron died. The staff there was almost in tears when we were talking to them about his impact on the park. He forged a relationship with the park management that I’m sure will endure his passing. Ron was quiet with a dry sense of humor that was evident in many of his hides. We were fortunate to at get to know him a little through events that he held. We last saw him in July when he told us some of the details of the problems that he was having. We found two of his hides yesterday and dnf’d one. It seemed surreal to see on that one that he had just done maintenance a few weeks earlier. If you get to Harrington Beach any of his caches are well worth searching for.
