After several weeks of discussion and communication, the WGA BODs has set the place and date for the 2014 WGA Campout.

Mirror Lake State Park near Wisconsin Dells is the location. The dates are May 9-11, 2014. It is a beautiful park, with many of the northern pine and cool canyons that the Dells area is known for.

This is the 2nd weekend in May, rather than the 3rd. The 4th weekend is Memorial Day weekend, then the busy summer season begins.

The facilities we needed for our group size were not available on the 3rd weekend, so rather than settle for 4 picinic tables in a small shelter, we chose the larger facilities on the 2nd weekend. We will be in the Bluewater Camp Sites, with 2 group sites reserved, holding 20 tents per site. Each group site has a fire ring, too!

This is also Mother’s Day weekend, so bring Mom along for a special time!

We will be looking for help from our members in the area, especially cache hiding. The staff at the Park Office are excited to have us there and will be a big help in making this a memorable event.

Watch for more info next spring!

We were hoping you would move it to June like the last one at Governor Dodge. Can’t make it to the earlier May date.

Mirror Lake is an excellent choice. The ranger there was excellent to work with when I put the WGA State Park cache there and undoubtedly will fully support the outing. She is excited about geocaching and will be excited to see more to come.

My parents have been taking a week of vacation in the Dells to hang out with our kids for years. It is a tradition of ours to go out hiking at night with flashlights, usually at Mirror Lake. We’ve been doing this far longer than we’ve been geocaching. It sure would be fun to do this with our WGA friends too!

Ditto Mr. G…. another campout we are going to have to miss.

Looking forward to the event. Never been down there to the park so I’m making arrangements now! Only thing keeping me away is a potential Soccer tournament but we’ll be flexible.

I’ll miss this one too. My weekend to work.

Mother’s Day might be tough for me to make. We will have to see what my kids are planning for me. Oh wait…what am I talking about…..I am going to be in Hawaii….my daughter graduates that following week. Bummer … NOT! Although I do love Mirror Lake. Please everyone – if you are going to be this close to Parfrey’s Glen – you MUST stop and hike it. It is like my most favorite place on this earth. It was Wisconsin’s first state natural area. It is heaven on earth.

We visited the park yesterday, and we remembered a visit in spring recently where we saw a whole bunch of garlic mustard along the trail. CITO event?

Uh oh, lots of people that can’t attend. I sure hope that there’s a few that can! I’ll be there BTW.

Last year, we had 68 cache teams that posted “Will Attend” logs and 74 cache teams that attended.

So far, 4 cache teams have voiced their disappointment in having prior commitments 6 months from now. If that swells to more than 50, THAT’S alot!

The BODs already have some secret plans we’re working on, to make it special for those that can attend. We’ll let the cache page speak for us in 3 months! 🙂

exactly. just remember that for every person that can’t make the new weekend, there are now cachers like me who no longer have a conflict and can finally attend!
this will only be my second campout because the traditional weekend is the same weekend as the Wisconsin Lions Club state convention. the campout at Gov Dodge worked out in the same manner.

My Wife, Mother of my child is not a fan of geocaching – or driving 2 hours Mothers Day Weekend to geocache – That being said I have never been to a campout so this might be worth the week in the dog house or working really hard the weeks leading up to it… We will see but I am leaning towards a yes!
