I wish we could have joined Marc’s cemetery trip today, but we couldn’t. So….I’ll share what has to be one of the most intriguing cemetery markers we’ve ever seen, right up there with the ‘meteorite’ in Prairie du Chien.

We stopped at this cache toward the end of the day yesterday. The cache didn’t feature this stone, so you have to be on the lookout for it. It is life sized.

The stone is placed looking out beyond the cemetery, at the south edge. It is placed for a couple who passed away within about 6 months of each other. Not terribly old. These are the kind of things we love about cemetery caching….those stories these stones might tell. Running to get the find and not looking around, you’d miss these stories.

If the photos are frickin’ huge, well…photobucket wasn’t letting me size them down. Sorry! But the stone is huge!

That’s so cool! Thanks for sharing, we’ll try and squeeze that one in there some time. My husband loves wandering around cemeteries and speculating on the history of the area.

Just went on our bucket list, married in 1999, it’s kind of sad. 🙁

Thanks for sharing this caching opportunity!

I did the math based on one of the couple’s birthdates, and they were only in their 20s. Ages of our sons now. 🙁 It’s a really interesting thing to find, and people might miss it looking for the cache. We were surprised to see how much lichen has taken over in just ten years time (assuming the bear was placed the year of their death).

We found that cache also and found it very interesting. This is why we love cemetary caches. We always walk around the cemetary and very rarely do we not find something interesting.
