In your opinion, what are the strengths and the weaknesses of the WGA? What will you do to strengthen the WGA?

01/13/2014 at 3:57 am #1973941Hi Beccaday, Strengths of the WGA I see is that there is usually enough people who are willing to always is enough help to make sure that a event runs smoothly. Secondly, it seems like everyone gets along well. This helps show that we have a strong WGA Board of awesome Members.
How I been able to strengthen the WGA, I have gracefully donated for some kind WGA event, whether donating hotdogs for a event, I have done the pathtag wheel a couple time for West Bend Mega Cash Bash and raised over 800 dollars. Another one I have helped is design ideas for the pathtags for the events. I am proud to help make the WGA as strong as I can with the abilities I can offer and anywhere or how I can show my support for WGA.01/13/2014 at 4:40 am #1973942I feel the strengths of the WGA are:
1. that we do select our Board of Directors based on what their thoughts and actions are, and not based on popularity.
2. that the membership tends to be an active and giving group.
3. that the WGA remains free from a membership fee due to the willingness of the membership to support through merchandise purchases and donations.
Some of the weaknesses are:
1. there is some difficulty getting members to help out at events. Don’t get me wrong, there are often enough hands to get the job done but it does tend to often be the same hands.
2. there has been difficulty in retaining members. Understand that this is a hobby and life gets in the way some times but for some reason, members leave, or new members sign up and don’t return. Something the Board has been trying to solve for several years.
No matter what the strength or weakness may be, the WGA has been a functioning entity since 2002 and hopefully will continue.
The success or failure of the WGA cannot be based only on the BOD, the membership is a huge part of fulfilling the mission.

The members, pure and simple. I’m a member of many caching groups spread from Portland to the Tennesse Valley and a number of them seem to implode due to antagonism between members or general lack of participation. This group we have here, while they may not all agree all the time, manage to come together for the most part.Weaknesses:
Event participation (I’m guilty as well). It seems like I could probably count on my fingers and toes the people that help out at almost all the events I attend.Strengthening:
In my opinion, the best thing we can do is keep promoting caching in general and the WGA in particular. Many hands makes light work.01/16/2014 at 8:51 pm #1973944I haven’t forgetten this one. Still thinking.
01/17/2014 at 1:51 am #1973945I must say that I have to defer to Labrat_wr’s opinion. He hit the nail on the head.
The only thing that I might add is that the reason that we see the same members doing the work, is that we always ask the same people to do the work, because we know that we can count on them.
Maybe to strengthen the group, we should each make an effort to ask someone that we see attending an event (someone we don’t know well), to lend a hand on the next one, just one. If they help out with one event, great, if they help out on more than one event later on, even better. And you might make a new friend in the process.
01/17/2014 at 6:24 pm #1973946Strengths…there is a long history in the WGA and the organization has been trying to be more all inclusive with ALL members. Due to the distances, this can be a challenge.
Weaknesses…members HAVE to log on to the webpage to find out what’s going on in the WGA. We had mentioned a newsletter several times but another means would be to have a diverse (geographically) board that each board member could have at least one “meet and greet” event every month or so just to pass on what’s happening to the cachers in that area.
