I read through the guidelines and I did not see how far a second waypoint can be from the original starting place on a multi. For some reason I am thinking it was no more than 2 miles?
04/24/2014 at 3:56 pm #1975856Good question. I know there is a two mile limit for unknown caches from the dummy coordinates to wp1 of the real coordinates, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of what the guidelines are for a multicache.
04/24/2014 at 4:14 pm #1975857GC11ZNW Stereoseldomitis is a multi that has WP2 in California and then returns to the Final in Wisconsin.
May not be part of the rule but it is an example
Following the signals from space.
04/24/2014 at 4:31 pm #1975858I think the prevailing thought is to keep the final container two miles or less from the given coordinates for both multis and unknowns to keep the mileage pretty close for trackables.
However, there are some older caches with finals that are farther away and some interim waypoints that go almost anywhere but with the finals close to the given cords, as WA just mentioned.
04/25/2014 at 5:32 pm #1975859The two mile limit only refers to false coordinates for mystery caches. There is no limit to the distance between actual stages of any cache, including mystery caches where there is “something” at the listed coordinates. (OK, really, there is a limit of 12450 miles, unless you get permission for an outer space cache.) There used to be a multi which started in Kenosha County and ended in Superior. The cache owner listed as a terrain 5 because you would need to carry a few pair of boots to make the hike!

04/29/2014 at 11:43 pm #1975861One more relating to this to make you twist yer brain. Can the final for the multi be closer than 500 feet to another separate cache? 🙄
04/29/2014 at 11:52 pm #1975862None of the waypoints can be within 528′ of another cache unless they are virtual waypoints (no container or tag).
04/30/2014 at 1:52 am #1975863Every physical object that you place, be it the final container, bison tubes or tags hanging from branches for intermediate stages, etc. must be at least 528′ away from other caches, or intermediate stages of other caches that aren’t “virtual stages”.
The only exception is that within your own multicache, if you feel like placing the stages 50′ apart, you’re good to go.
