After running this idea by others, a future event in Door County Wisconsin, or Washington Island would be a great place for a future geocaching event, I posted this idea on facebook and received some great comments back letting me know that this event idea would be loved and highly attended, I am great at coming up with the ideas, but I am not experienced or trained in starting a event, but if this idea takes hold and is planned, I would volunteer to do everything from running it to any other help that would be needed. Please advise on ideas and how to proceed with getting a group or people to make a event like this happen.
Feel free to contact me on here or on my geocaching email address [email protected]
Sincerely,
Brandon F

04/29/2014 at 9:31 pm #1975962Not sure if the date would work for me because my weekends sure are really busy but I’d love to attend an event up there if I could. The nice thing about events is that they can be as simple or as complicated as you’d like to make them. Basically, you need to choose a venue and find out about it, whether there’s a fee to enter, restrictions on what’s brought in, if dogs are allowed, etc. You may have to pay to reserve a shelter, so look into that. Then you decide whether you want to keep it simple like a meet ‘n greet, or if you want activities, games, food, prizes, new caches hidden, etc. It’s all up to you! Just figure it out, write it on your cache page, and you should be good to go. I believe that there was something from Groundspeak about hosting an event in one of their past weekly emails, maybe you could search through their archives for that information. Good luck!

You should contact labzone and see if Jim has firmed up any dates yet. Labzone lives in Door County and is in the planning stages of an event for this summer.

04/30/2014 at 1:20 am #1975964I’m a resident of Washington Island and at present there is an annual camp out event (tenth annual) June 12 on Rock Island. It’s the state park NE of Washington Island. From the mainland and from Washington Island to Rock Island there is a ferry (fee charged) service. Washington Island is a very active community especially during the summer months. Should you require any information send me an E-mail and I’ll help get you any information I can.

We attended one year and wish we could attend again. It is an annual event and I am pretty sure it will stay to become one of the longest running campouts. If you havent, its definitely a worthy event.

spankybrandonf has said he will be hiding and publishing his 1st cache this weekend so if you are in the Antigo area, keep and eye out for them.
