Related to geocaching, but mostly this is a silly topic so I put in Off Topic:
Many of us have expressed how as geocachers, we feel like a big family at times. We have supported each other in difficult times, enjoyed one another’s company at events, and some cachers have gotten their actual family members to become geocachers. There have even been a few cachers become actual family to each other.
In our big geocaching family, who are you? Are you the grandma with the award-winning apple brown betty that you bring to the picnic every year? Are you the devoted son who always performs cache maintenance and keeps his caching bag neat and organized? This is meant to be fun, so no slamming of our “relatives”, please.
I’ll start. To younger cachers, I am the quirky aunt who tries to be “in” and keep up with them. To the older cachers, I am the pesky little sister who always wants to tag along and learn, but can’t quite keep up.
Who are you?
09/28/2014 at 11:03 pm #1977485We have no children of our own, so we are aunt and uncle (and great-aunt and great-uncle) to almost forty of our siblings’ descendants and those who have married them. I guess I would be like the aunt then, but since I have all those “Granny” puzzle caches out there, I’m probably more of a grandma. 😉
Whoever I am, I am the very literate one… writing lots of words in posts and in logs!
BTW, amita17, you can be my little sister anytime.
09/28/2014 at 11:10 pm #1977486Interesting idea, but to tell you the truth…except for our aunt and uncle from Sandland, we feel mosly like Uncle Carbuncle in the children’s books, “The Stupids Step Out.” Anyone familiar with the books will understand and that’s all I’m saying about that 🙄
09/29/2014 at 1:08 am #1977487I don’t know very many other people who cache so I suppose I’m that long lost aunt that moved thousands of miles away and never gets heard from except for maybe a card at Christmas.
09/29/2014 at 4:07 am #1977488I see us as the middle child and am perfectly OK with that. Not the special first born that siblings look up to, or the “let’s put a lot of attention on” the baby of the family. Not forgotten or unloved, but what’s so special about a middle child when it comes to rank?
*no rudeness intended at the writing of this post.
09/29/2014 at 3:37 pm #1977489I think I’m like the mom that’s trying to take care of everybody. If there are children in the group I’m caching with they usually end up holding hands with me along the way at some point.

09/29/2014 at 8:33 pm #1977490Since 95% of the other Wisconsin geocachers are younger than us we feel like the mom and dad a lot. We cache with quite a few teams that are close to the ages of our children. Just the fact that they will cache with us makes us feel young and we do our best to keep up with them.
Slightly off topic is that we hope none of you ever have to have a year like we are going through personally. But if you do I can guarantee that your geocaching friends will be some of the people that you will be able to count on to help you through tough times.

Well said, Mister GT.
09/29/2014 at 9:06 pm #1977492I’m the Grandpa who loves to be with kids. I have seven grandkids and they live all over from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

I may be one of the kids who keeps trying to learn (and, evidently, letting Grandpa help me out when trying to convince the County Park service of something 😀 ).
09/30/2014 at 3:03 am #1977494I’m kind of like that uncle who comes around once in awhile and cooks pancakes for everyone.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
09/30/2014 at 9:42 pm #1977495I think I am definitely the quirky cool aunt who has a slightly off kilter sense of humor but you can always turn to in your time of need. Need someone to climb that tree-call me. Need someone to dive underwater to grab that cache-sure no problem. Want to go out after dark into the spooky woods-send me first.
