I’ve had this thing for probably almost five years now. Today, it did the unthinkable….refused to display the “description” screen and refused to let me back arrow to my original screen. I had to pull the batteries before restarting.
I can go to the screen with the map and distance countdown, but try going to anything else…hints, last logs…..it’s just a blank screen that locks.
Is there hope for this thing or should I just take over Trekkin’s little used 450t? Thanks. I’m not finding anything helpful with google searches.
11/03/2014 at 2:24 am #1977680I have a Garmin GPSMap62s and it did something similar this summer. I was devastated! My tech-savvy husband took over and updated the firmware on it and all was well. Maybe that is the problem?

11/03/2014 at 2:39 am #1977681My eTrex20 has done that on occasion. I always assumed the blank screen was that the receiver had shut down. I thought it was when there were long descriptions like in EarthCaches, but a few months ago it was on some other “normal” ones. I think I had loaded those caches differently, though, so maybe that has something to do with it. When I reloaded everything again, they seemed to work OK.
But you’re right… descriptions, hints, recent logs. Shuts down… or freezes as a blank screen.

11/03/2014 at 3:08 am #1977683Okay, I’ll look into a reset and firmware update.
Though it might be easier to just take over that 450t sitting and collecting dust!
Thanks for the ideas.
