What recommendation or ideas would you bring to the board? Be Specific.
I will take a shot at a few ideas. Not sure if any will stick but ideas lead to more ideas and ideas benefit the whole group.
- Get an Amazon Affiliate button on the WGA Website.
- This would allow members to buy geocache containers and supplies or just about anything from Amazon.com for the same prices but a little bit of the proceeds would go to the WGA coffers for Events and Prizes.
- Make a link right on the home screen for easy access to all your Amazon buying needs.
- Use my contacts at the WEAU TV 13 Station out of Eau Claire to promote a WGA Geocaching Event if one gets held in the Eau Claire region.
- During the morning show Hello Wisconsin on WEAU has a 1 -2 minute segment about upcoming events in the area. I think I could help get some board members on the show to help spread the word about the Wisconsin Geocaching Association’s benefits to the local community and Muggle Businesses.
- I would be happy to bring my kind of events to the WGA Events.
- I have been hosting events that are unique in ways I have not been to before. I would be happy to make a small mini-event like a Team Northwoods Event at the WGA Event and take geocachers on a guided hike to a unique area to pick up smileys and banter along down the trail.
- I don’t know how all events go but Team Northwoods takes pride in the banter and bonding a good hike and a unique experience can do to bring fellow geocachers together. You would just have to be there.
- I know I am talking in 3rd person but Team Northwoods got tired of saying I.
- Every year at the Blue Hills Festival I run a Poker Tournament to raise money for the Bruce Lions Club.
- When we collect the buy-in money so much goes to the club.
- We have a 1 re-buy period for the first hour if the player loses all their chips and wants to continue playing, again another portion goes to the club.
- At the end of the first hour there is an add-on period. At that point if a player wants to add more chips before the first break ends they can buy more. Again a portion goes to the club.
- The players get the rest according to who get in 1st 2nd or 3rd place depending on the number of entrants.
- Good way for the club to make an extra $300 to $500 and players really enjoy it because 1st place can get up to $300 to $400 and so on. Geocachers can play poker too. They know it is a fundraiser for the club and are happy play this mutually beneficial tournament.
I hope these ideas give you something to mull around.
Thank you.***Opinions expressed are mine alone and will change based upon new information. ***

The recommendation or idea that I bring to the board is that we need to look at WGA from the sustainability standpoint. WGA membership is free, yet the organization incurs expenses both annual and operational. Members have ideas but many of those need funding. Our events need funding. WGA has been able to sustain itself with branding and selling merchandise and clothing but we need to grow that to be able to continue to fund ourselves.

I plan to continue my role working on the newsletter. I hope to add a few contests and promotions to make it all a little more fun, as well as informative.
I’d like to make it a point to reach out to different parts of the state to see if members would like to host WGA-sponsored CITO’s or any other events. I’d also like to teach a few more Geo 101’s, or help others that would like to do this, so that we can educate those who are new to the game.
I’d also like to continue to talk to people around the state and get a feeling for what they’d like from the WGA.
