    Hello,

My geoname is Troutonthebrain and I am currently working to start back up the UWSP geocaching club. I am a student at point and I know there used to be a group until 2009. My dream for the group is to pick up where the old group left off by getting a group of students together to go caching on the weekends and perhaps host an event or two each year. I can’t start thinking too far ahead, however, because there is a lot that goes into making a group “official.” The reason I am posting here is to find out if there are any cachers that anyone knows of that are on staff at point interested in becoming the advisor for the group. In order to become an official student org one needs a staff advisor and I figured I should post here before I send emails in every direction looking for a prof with free time.

    Thanks

Hello Trout, this sounds like a great idea! Please feel free to contact me or any other Board member if you’d like anything from the WGa. We could provide training materials and possibly someone to teach a 101 class, if you would like. Maybe we could make a forum section for this? And maybe we could have different sections for different colleges? Lots to consider. Maybe we can brainstorm and figure out what you need to get going with this. Sounds fun!

I would like to get the group connected with the geocaching community as best as I can. The old group used to host cito events and introduction to geocaching events which I would like to continue. I have cohosted 3 events before and am experienced with the whole geocaching side of things but whole “official student org” part of it just comes with so much annoying paperwork, but the fun of having a group to cache with makes it worth it. =)

Keep us posted as you figure out how to be an official school group.

The UWSP Geocaching Club was really missed when they went away. I attended a couple of their events before they disbanded. I even have one of their geocoins. 🙂 It would be great to see it come back together.

I’ll talk to a few people and try to find an advisor.

I would try contacting im n eagle.  He adopted a bunch of the UWSPGC caches after they folded.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
