I will not know until Friday afternoon if I am going to get away from work to make the event but if I do…

Who is going and wants to set up a time to have people meet and cache together? We could all meet at the Center.
Last year’s event was great when we all went snowshoe caching.

We’re planning to come.  Hoping to at least do the Mother Goose ones and I also want to head up Smoky Hill Rd, as I’m told that would be a good place to try and spot a nemesis bird.  You can see my mind isn’t completely on caches.  I’ll see what others post here and we can see if we can get our butts up there to join up.

It is a 3 hour drive for me and if all goes as planned with getting TN Elliephant dropped off by 7:30 I am planning on starting at these caches at 10:30 going up to grab Ursa Minor.

And then after the event going to Gilligan’s Island

If you plan to meet up at the center, be aware that it is not normally open on weekends in the winter. I had planned to be there to open up around 10:00 am. If anyone plans to be there earlier, there is a parking lot just south of the center at N 44 41.734 W089 51.690

BigJim60 – I should be able to snowshoe up the little bear creek to Ursa Minor right? It looks like it is a slow flow creek so it should be iced over unless there are a lot of springs in the area. I have no idea. Never been around there before.

We’re planning to come but I want to hit up the State Parks that are kind of on the way.

Oh the woes of the short geocacher!

I’m at the mercy of my chaufeur…labzone and I haven’t firmed up any plans yet. And I don’t think I’m physically up to any major endeavors at this point…maybe a light hike.

There are no state parks “kind of on the way.”  You will have to go out of your way to visit them.  Make sure you leave time to enjoy the event itself.

I would love to get in on a group hike to any one of the lonely caches in Meade. No snowshoes, so I’m really hoping there are some snowmobile trails.

Is anyone interested in attempting Bad George? GCYVEF It looks like a little over 2 miles round trip.

“Bad George” sounds wickedly bad!  😯

Bad George can be bad, especially in winter. Engle Lane is a snowmobile trail in the winter. You could probably drive down it with a 4WD, but I don’t know the legality/etiquette of driving on a snowmobile trail. You can walk in from Hwy S, but the trails that way will be unbroken snow.

Ursa Minor Perkad and Kochab are both near snowmobile trails, and Ahfa al Farkadain is just off a dike that is sometimes plowed in winter and/or packed down by DNR vehicle use. I haven’t been out there to check. I checked on the nursery rhyme series last weekend and though I used snowshoes, I wouldn’t have needed them. In fact I ran into a guy out exercising his dogs that was wearing boots.

While we’d love to do the Ursa Minor series, our main reason for coming is to enjoy the event.  So we hope to do the Mother Goose ones beforehand, pick up any of the ones Big Jim mentioned as being kind of park and grabby and getting to the event near its start.  So anyone who might be thinking in a similar way, let us know.  For us it’s about a two hour trip to get to the Visitor Center.  I do have Bad George on our list, but again….outside the event times for  us.

I am not familiar with Mead.  I couldn’t find that they rent snowshoes on their website so I am thinking not.  I could walk trails that are pretty well trodden, but wouldn’t be up for a strenuous hike in snow.  I am a couple hours away, so don’t wait for my arrival.  But I will keep watching to see if a group forms…it was quite fun to snowshoe as a group at Mosquito Hill.

Like the King of Pop said as a child “I’ll be there…”

A day off and Mrs WA is away for the weekend with Mrs. Lacknothing. Geocaching shall ensue. I have a nice little shovel perfect for uncovering anything that may be covered by craphas.
