I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the geocaching community lost a pair of cachers yesterday. If you have done any caching in the Merrill/Tomahawk area, you’ve probably seen the names “Worldserver” and/or “Tiki Girl.” Lani Nelson began geocaching under the username Worldserver, a reference to her profession as a flight attendant. Somewhere along the line she changed her username to Tiki Girl, a reference to her birthplace, Hawaii. Her husband, Mark, was her frequent caching partner, though I don’t think he was registered with GC.com. As a flight attendant, Lani traveled a lot, logging finds in 42 states and 6 countries in the 3 1/2 years that she played the game. Anyone who met her would never forget her. For a little lady she had a huge personality, a smile that never left her face, and an infectious laugh. Mark and Lani were killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident. Please remember Mark and Lani and their families in your prayers if you are so inclined.

04/06/2015 at 8:33 pm #2038426That is so sad. She was quite a dynamo of a person, and often stopped by. She will be missed.

04/06/2015 at 9:23 pm #2038442Thanks for all the background information on Lani and Mark, Jim. It makes them more real to those of us who didn’t know them well, maybe only having seen their names on logs or met them briefly at events. And, Ralph, “dynamo” is the impression I got about Lani, too.

04/07/2015 at 7:12 am #2038454She moved our “get it to Oregon” TB most of the way. We got to exchange thank yous, but never got the chance to meet her. Very sad. Sudden death like this can really shake families.

04/07/2015 at 7:39 am #2038455It’s always sad when news like this hits our caching “family”…and on Easter Sunday, no less.

04/07/2015 at 2:44 pm #2038466Sad to hear of this. I never met either cacher, but it seems they touched the lives of many.
04/07/2015 at 3:00 pm #2038468We did not know them personally, but I enjoyed seeing her logs and I know she and Mrs. Timberline Echoes were friends. Such a sad loss. Our thoughts are with their families during this difficult time. Thanks for sharing a nice memorial, Jim.
04/07/2015 at 6:24 pm #2038478I never met her but when I started a couple of months ago I read logs. Then I found I was reading hers. Not the usual “I found it” log. Hers were stories that soon became adventures. In those adventures you could see her passion for this game/ sport/ hobby or what ever you want to call it. She is truly one person I really did wish I could meet.
